Hi, i'm ready to do my interior on my 73 plymouth duster. the duster on the box is yellow and i always try to stay as close to the model in the picture on the box as possible. i don't know why i just do.

this time i'd like to try an interior color different than black. The body of the duster is yellow - i have no sense of color matching, even with clothing (so my wife says), so i would like opinions as to which interior color would look good with a yellow body.

also i try to keep my builds as close to stock as possible - is there any websites that show what colors a particular model car actually came in for the given year along with its matching interior color offered by the manufacturer.

Thx, John

I think you're kind of boxed in with the yellow exterior color. Black or white for the interior is probably about it for stock. Google it like Patrick said, but I think you'll find two choices. Otherwise...break away and do something wild. It was the '70's and Chrysler products had some pretty wild interiors. Check out the latest issue of Hemming's Muscle Machines Magazine. There's an article on a '75 Plymouth Road Runner. It has an interior called "Sundance". It's a multi-colored thin striped insert in the seats and doors. Just look around at all makes of cars. By the mid 70's there were some outlandish interiors by all the companies. Horsepower was down or non-existant and it was "look at me" time.

In my opinion, black or white (cream) provide the best contrast, however, as Harry's link points out, there are a couple other factory options to choose from. Now, if you're able to extricate yourself from having to do 'factory colors only', Well, the palette opens up considerably. You could try all sorts of options, below is a quick illustration of just a couple of ideas using two colors and adding a pattern, (either with decal or masking the area and attempting some freehand patterns using a toothpick, feather, pen & ink, spatter pain with a stiff bristle brush, ....you get the idea. Maybe add some similar color accents to the wheels or exterior. Anyhow, good luck, looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

All your questions will be answered here.

My grandmother had a '74 in soft yellow with a white vinyl top and gold interior. Pretty car. Some of the Model Master Earth-tones, mixed with yellow and white, will get you into that general ballpark.

This is about the color of the interior in Gram's car.
