Well, just came back from the first weekend of Bike Week 2012 in Daytona Beach. Unfortunately it rained most of the weekend, keeping most show bikes under cover, but I did manage to find quite a few interesting bike, paint jobs, and yes, even some cool cars . . .

I am hoping those of you going for this second weekend will have much better weather and much more fun.

Cool pics, Doc! Sorry it rained on your parade. I must have planned a dozen trips from K.C. over the years, none ever "panned" out. Pun intended! Thanks for the show!

This is the least number of photographs I've ever taken at a Bike Week. The rain would just not let up. Lots of people were bummed about it. Nothing sadder than a whole bunch of beautiful bikes getting soaked in the rain. The hotel rooms were packed.

I hope this coming weekend will be a different story.

I quit going years ago, the cops are rediculous.

I used to be one of them. Honestly, the cops are only as bad as they are forced to be based on the individuals involved. Minimal incidents over the past few years.

Virgil, too bad you didn't mention earlier that you were going to be in town. It would have been cool to get together and meet you in person. Maybe next time. The weather report for this week is looking great but the weekend is supposed to bring in more rain.

I would agree with you, Wayne. I think the cops have their hands full, and they try to be as reasonable as it is humanly possible given the fact that everyone is drinking and then riding motorcycles. I mean, it's still a very wild scene.

Yes, I will keep you posted. I usually try to go to BikeOktober Fest and I just might this year seeing as to how BIKE WEEK was a total wash this year. I think if it rains again this weekend, lots of people are going to go broke, or not meet their expected earnings, which is going to make it tough for them to return next year.

The one and only time I was in Daytona, it just so happened to be bike week. I will never go to another city in which it is "bike week".

Micheal, yes, it must have been a shock. I remember the first time I could not believe there were so many thousands of motorcycles on the streets. It was and still is a crazy scene and car drivers must drive on at full alert.

Mike, I wanted to go to that one. Please take lots of pictures, and share them with us here. It's always a great show. Have fun.

Equipment violation tickets on bikes that were legal in their home state, loud pipe tickets on bikes with stock exaust and aren't even running, tickets for loitering while waiting at a red light, ect.........

You want a FANTASTIC bike week? Head out to Arizona Bike Week. Everybody rides instead of sitting around drinking all day & night. Went out in 2000 and 2001 and had great time each year.

I've been here since 84 and I've never heard any stories like that or been involved in any issues like what you mention. If it was a huge issue then more people would be reporting on it from year to year. You would think there would be more feedback on any issues, especially considering the tech. age that we are all living in, and you just don't hear it, except for an occasional comment such as yours. With almost 500,000 extra people in town over a 10 day time span there will be issues and some that may be harder to control than others but some of those charges you mentioned seem odd.

The biggest problem faced each year are the theft rings that venture into the area and feed off stolen bikes. Each year the counts go up and it's harder and harder to control. ATF has a pretty good presence each year to deal with issues but all in all Bike Week has a pretty good reputation and the people will continue to come for years to come.

I never got cited....Pipes, lights, tatoos.....BUT if you act like an adult the DPD will treat you like one....Now ride your rice rocket on the sidewalks, wheelie at will....YOU WILL PAY!

AND COLORS...a big guarantee if you wear your patch...you will get hassled...big time!

Agreed Doc. I think it was back at the 50th, a WAR broke out between the Outlaws and Warlocks...DPD and FDLE took them out.

The end result that year was signs at all campgrounds..."NO COLORS, NO GUNS, NO ATTITUDES

It worked well...no problems anywhere, and I see it quite a bit.

I prefer Bike Week to Biketoberfest.....Alot of the northern builders have worked since Thanksgiving to build the latest...LOTS of candy!!
