martinfan5 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 (edited) To be honest here, and not trying to be a jerk, but my biggest pet peeve is how people care how one builds there model that they paid for how they see fit. Every one builds at different skills levels and for different reason's , so my question is why some of us care?. Yes I understand if people are building for contest's thats different but most of us dont. Disclaimer The above was not meant to offend any one Jim Edited March 21, 2012 by martinfan5
zenrat Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 My peeve is when the laws of physics and/or general mechanics are thrown out completely for the sake of ride height/wheel size. Wheels/tires too large or wide for the front wheels to turn side to side or tires touching the wheel wells/fenders in any way. Yeah I know it's just plastic, and people should be free to flex their creativity, but the subject is mechanical and it should look like it could work/run if it was 1:1. So we're not likely to find you cutting the tops of wheels off to get it even lower then? This thread asks for Pet Peeves. Not for RULES EVERYONE SHOULD BUILD TO (I was thumping the desk for emphasis between words there - you probably couldn't tell though). By replying are we not just letting others know what we don't like? I certainly am. I don't expect everyone to immediately start running wash down their panel gaps because I don't like it when they don't. However it's out there now that it bugs me. And while typing this i've realised what is the absolute worst thing that bugs me. The ultimate peeve if you like. the one thing that SHOULD be stopped despite what i've said above. It's when i've finished a build and cleaned it and polished it and dusted it and set up the photo gubbins and lights and taken pics and loaded them onto the computer and adjusted them and uploaded them to photobucket and then... ...spotted a glaring mistake/error/scratch/fingerprint/mould line that there is no way I should have missed. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Jantrix Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 So we're not likely to find you cutting the tops of wheels off to get it even lower then? Umm..........no not a chance. There was a builder here that routinely did that and he and I had long private discussions on the subject, but I was unable to bring him back to the light side of the force. As for the ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!, man I feel your pain. I've been there. People say the camera adds ten pounds to people, but it also makes any error pop out and yell, "HERE I AM!"

Every one builds at different skills levels and for different reason's , so my question is why some of us care? Honestly I don't really care how you build your models. It's yours and I'm never gonna bash you for what you build. But when someone posts a build and says, "What do you think?" I'm going to be honest. Because thats what I'm being asked to do. Is that wrong?
Greg Myers Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 I think you're correct in saying it's your model, but it's our hobby, and we all strive to make it believable. After all we are building "models", small objects, usually built to scale, that represents in detail another, often larger object. Represents being the key word here.

No you are not wrong when askesd, thats when its ok, but going around and telling people they should do this or that to there model is not , unless they asked. And I agree with that too, but not everyone builds like you do or, anyone else does, some dont care about the little things, build they way you do and want to, and let everyone build the way they want to. I do, and I dont care how you or anyone else builds THEIR kits, and I dont want people caring how I build MY kits, if you have idea's or suggestions or I ask, fine let me hear them, but dont expect me or everyone to feel that the have to build it or do things being suggested. Not everyone wants to build to get everything down to the right detail done right. Edited March 22, 2012 by martinfan5
