Does anyone have any idea if anyone is offering a more accurate rear slick for the recent reissue of the Tom Mcewen rear engine dragster. The kit tires are ok, but a little too wide for that era. Just curious.

Thanks

Vernon, I am using the tires from the recent Revell reissue Funny Cars [Mongoose, JJ and Blue Max]. They have no sidewall markings are are the perfect size. Add decals and you are good to go.

The only ones that are close are in the Model King reissue Ohio George Multi maverick gasser or the new pad printed M&H slicks in the just reissued Barnabus Collins Vampire van, these are period correct, but not goodyears which Tom ran.

I agree, I checked my tire box last night and had a set from the multi maverick and found them to be just about perfect. I also had some from a 1320 diecast rail that will work.

Hopefully somebody will cast these tires as I've got about twelve rear engine dragsters I'm working on.

By the way many thanks go out to Chuck Boerner for offering all the decals to do the old dragsters & funny cars, His decals are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the suggsestions.

The resin tires at Flashpoint wont be any good to you because there a more modern tire, and are super wide.

Rom are you sure, or are you just referring to only the Pro Mod tires. In looking at the funny car ones, they look similar. Especially the 1/16 Fuel Altered slicks and the 1/16 Funny Car slicks might be similar. I don't know the scale 1:1 measurements but I would have to question if the Revell stuff is even scale?

The rear Slicks in the Mongoose Dragster kit are the ones from the funny car kits of the 1980's and 1990's, and most of the pro stock and pro mod kits from 1984 forward, not the Nostalgia funny car kits , the Goodyear lettering was removed due to licensing in this reissue, heck you even get the funny car front tires in this kit.The funny thing about these slicks is what they went on to become in other kits.., in the original issue of this kit (the Care Free Snake and Mongoose) the original tire molds were modified after these kits were done running, they were widened and changed from the Goodyear blue streak special lettering on the sidewalls and replaced with Goodyear Eagles lettering and these reworked molds went on to be used in the most of the Monogram and Revell pro stock, funny car and pro mod kits for many years, so they have come full circle. these rear slicks are too wide for to be correct for this time period on this dragster.

I think I found an answer to my own question. I went to competiton resins website and saw they offer 60's dragster tires, item# CRT510. They measure 17/16" tall X 9/16" wide, this should be about 35" tall X 14" wide in real size. I think this is about correct for the late 60's to early 70's era dragsters. At any rate I ordered a few sets and will update my post when they arrive. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I also found if you take the kit tires and cut them at the mold line and use the outer portion of 2 tires and glue them together you'll get about the same results. The problem with that is, you use 2 tires to make one and have a joint seam to get rid of. For the money I think competition resins tire will be the best way to go.

I'll update this message as soon as I get the tires.

Just wanted to let you guys know, my order from Comp Resins, for the CRT510 tires arrived, and they are a perfect match for the late 60's to early 70's dragster slicks. The tires look great but as with all resin, they'll need a little clean up. By the way these a rubber like material. I liked mine so much I just placed an order for another six sets.

I hope this info helps.
