Wildrice Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I am just starting this build. I believe the instructions have a mistake on them. Has anyone built this kit? Is there a correction for the mistake? It talks about installing the radiator but shows the door panels. Go figure.
Zoom Zoom Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Yes, they botched the instructions but I had no problem figuring out what to do. You can aid the final assembly by snipping off about 1/8" from the top point of the B pillar trim; it contacts the roof when you are trying to get the interior/chassis into place. The chassis looks seated but it really isn't, and the ride height is way too high. Also the ride height is a bit 4 X 4 if built OOB even after the B pillar fix; lowering the ride height benefits the model greatly. Wider tires are also problematical; the wheel housings are very narrow and require surgery to the chassis and wheel housings if you want to stuff wider wheels/tires into them w/o them sticking out of the fenders. I was rather ruthless w/my Dremel tool; once the tires were in place you can't see what I did to get them to fit but at least my model doesn't look like a rock hopper
MonoPed Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I slammed this one together in about 3½ days, box stock sans a new windshield. I didn't have any interferance with the interior side panels, but you can see just how high this thing sits. This one was built and given as a Christmas gift, but I have another waiting in the stash that will be a lot less "stock" when finished. Brian
jbwelda Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 i took a look at a next door neighbors 1:1 2006 mustang yesterday and that ride height looks about right. dorky but right. i told her she needs to have it lowered 3 inches all around and get a shock tower connector bar put in. she ignored me. but the car looks a whole lot better closer to the ground.
Wildrice Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 Thanks guys. Any other probs I need to look out for on this kit? Does anyone have any other pics of built ones? I sorta want mine to be a street/strip ride. Something you would drive to the track and flog it a lil bit.
MonoPed Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Both of my kits had/have warped windshields, one much worse than the other. Easily solved with a piece of clear plastic. Other than that, I don't recall any fit issues that keep this from being a quick-building kit. Brian
Zoom Zoom Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I've built one and partially built another, it builds up fairly easy, the one I partially built (it was a group effort) did have some mild warp to the rear glass but careful gluing of it under some pressure got it to fit just fine. The wheel/tire fit is the one area to watch for especially if you're going with non-stock rolling stock, especially in back. The wheel housings are made for the very narrow stock tires.
MonoPed Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Bob's right on the rear wheel tubs, I am gonna have to get rude with the dremel to fit the wheels and tires I want to use under the car. The flip side is that there should be plenty of hood clearance for the engine idea I'm kicking around
Schumacher330 Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 You going to put the IRS out of the Cobra in it too?
MonoPed Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Hadn't thought about it...but probably not. Will have enough work fitting the rear tires
