my80malibu Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 After using Acrylic Enamel clear, when is it safe to recoat? What needs to be done before recoating. To avoid the clear attacking and crazing?
CadillacPat Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I don't use Acrylics. But, What exactly are you doing? Did you spray a coat of Acrylic Clear and then stop to come back to it later? How much time has lapsed since your last coat? CadillacPat
roadhawg Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I've always heard that the general rule of thumb is "2/24"....if you can't get it on there within 2 hours, you should wait at least 24 hours. Not sure if it's right, but it's always worked for me.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I've always apply my clear coats on the same day, sometimes 3-5 coats and then put the body away to gas out. Now, if a few days later I feel it needs another coat, I wet sand the body, and then hit it up with one or two more coats . . . that usually works. I would recommend that same process if you have cleared your body and a couple of weeks later you want to add more clear, etc . . .
crazyjim Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 AS soon as I finish one coat on all the parts, I go back and start over again. And again. I don't think I've ever put on more than 3 coats of Platikote acrylic clear.
Scale-Master Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Acrylic Enamel is not the same as just acrylic. For example, Dupont Centauri is Acrylic Enamel. What brand are you using? You should be able to find a spec sheet for it online if the instructions are not on the can. If it has dried fully, you may have to sand the previous coat to get good adhesion for the next one.
my80malibu Posted April 3, 2012 Author Posted April 3, 2012 I was using Duplicolor brand, from a spray can. And ran into some trouble before, I dont want, or need that Nightmare again. Would it be better to Decant then spray the clear out of my airbrush?
