RattleCan Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 (edited) Hey all, first post here. Just finished my first kit after a 6 year break from the hobby, and I have to say it feels good to bust out the glue and enamel again. The only thing its missing are the tire decals, which I'll have to add later if I can find some in my parts boxes. The paint is rustoleum enamel (Sunrise Red) over duplicolor primer. RattleCan Posted April 22, 2012 Author Posted April 22, 2012 Thank you. I found the can, it's Rustoleum 7762 "Sunrise Red".
Guest Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Nice job. Where in MN are you? I am in East Bethel, just north of Minneapolis.
Monty Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Wow, I've read so many negative things about using Rustoleum for painting models, then you come in here and stomp all over that line of thinking by topping off a great build with an incredibly nice paint job.
RattleCan Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 Thanks for all the kind words. As far as the rustoleum goes, you can get a great finish using it with careful prep work and several light coats. Its really easy to go too thick with it and it has a 9 hour dry time at low temp, so a dust-free spraying and drying area is a must. I've used it before on other applications, this is my first time spraying a model with it. My original plan was to use duplicolor laquer because its more forgiving to use and gives a great finish, but the primer I had wasn't compatible with it so I decided to give the enamel a shot.

That's just such an eye-grabbing shade of red; I can't believe how nicely it flowed out. If you were able to achieve this kind of finish without using a polishing kit or clear coat, I'm buying some of this stuff and reducing it for airbrush use.
PARTSMARTY Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 LOOKS VERY VERY NICE!!-EVERYTHING LOOKS AWESOME-GREAT PAINT- ALSO I AGREE WITH YOU-RUSTOLEUM PAINT WORKS FINE FOR ME IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT.
