Does anyone know where i can get a small sheet of photo etch screen to make grills out of? I need some for a 69 nova I'm building and i don't want to spend the money on a full detail set for it since I would only be using the grill. Thanks, Billy

I'm looking for the same thing but with shorter rectagular holes. The holes are a little too long on that Detail Master piece.

Check the suppliers to the ship &/or military. I see some ship railings PE that looks similar to that. Also the model railroaders have that stuff too.

Yeah, Plano Model Products caters to the model railroad crowd but he does sell some "scratch builders" sheets that are approx. 2-1/2" X 11" He was even kind enough to make a special type with Peterbilt Oval holes for me so it could be used for Peterbilt grill screens and air cleaners. He was disappointed at the small amount of people that ordered them so I hate to ask him to make any others. I had quite a few people say they wanted them but when it came time to buy them, everyone drug their feet! He does have sheets with round holes (Morton pattern) with curved end rectangles (Apex pattern) and tiny ovals. (I forget what he's calling that one?) He does have these same types in a really big sheet but it's over 100.00.

Hey Jim, that's what I use, I would have to see the air cleaners your referring too, to know for sure?

Here's the different scratch builders sheets that Plano offers

These are labeled as HO scale but work perfect for 1/25 and 1/24 things. The diamond plate may be too small though?

There's another place that carries a larger variety of screen. I think it's a model truck place and don't recall the name right now. Maybe some of our big rig people will see this and respond.

The frustrating reason I never order this stuff is you can never get a size comparison. Online, many sites show a picture but don't tell you how big the sheet is. As mentioned above, scale can almost be irrelevant if the pattern size is what you want, but unless there's a ruler or object for comparison then all you have is a picture of a pattern (macro close up or 2ft away?). And from what I've seen, only the most affluent (scarce) hobby shops carry any for you to evaluate first hand.

I'm about as "big rig" as a modeler can be and I'm not aware of any place like that? Kit Form Services selles expanded metal type screens but for photo etch like the stuff I posted, Plano is the only place I've found so far?

I remember seeing somewhere (I thought it was here) that somebody was making mesh material that perfectly matched Kenworth or Peterbilt truck grille patterns. Was it PE of expanded metal, I don't know. I looked through all my bookmarks but nothing jumps out at me as the site. I'll keep looking.

Found it Ben! In fact you replied to me over a year ago about the oval Peterbilt mesh. It's #215 at Plano and it's stainless material. I just emailed the guy to ask the size of the sheet. He wants $12.95 but doesn't state the dimensions of the sheet.
