mrmike Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 This project is really coming along and I am stoked for getting it finished. I finished the interior this afternoon. I painted the inboard ends of the taillights as backup lights. The engine bay is ready for the engine. More to come...
Bartster Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Looking good, Mike. Hope to see it underglass soon. Bart.
mrmike Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 Thanks Bryan and Bart! Speaking of glass...Well, I was ready to go and install the glass last night and discovered...no glass! I looked all over the shop for it and I couldn't find it. And, I can't for the life of me remember if the glass was in the kit when I bought it. The kit was open when I bought it. So into the parts box I went searching for glass and I found one that will fit the rear window with a little trimming. I couldn't find a windshield so I'll use a sheet of clear acetate and make a windshield and side windows too.
Mr. Moparman Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Sad to hear about the glass mrmike, but I bet the glass you'll make will be even better than the kit's glass.
mrmike Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 Here's is how I went about making new windows. First, I traced the window opening onto a piece of paper and then cut them out. Then I traced the pattern onto a piece of clear flat bubble packaging using a Sharpie. I cut out the new windows using a sharp pair of scissors and cut along the outside perimeter of the black line. This will be my mounting edge. After checking that the windows will fit properly, I will use 2-part epoxy to mount the new windows. More to come...
mrmike Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 I got my decals on last night. Just the hockey stick stripes from Keith Marks. But, what's this? It is new kit glass! A BIG THANK YOU to fellow Classic Plastic Model Club member John for the glass. Yes, I am taking the easy road to finishing my Duster. The glass was freely offered by John and I decided to take it. John is number one in my book! More to come...
mrmike Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 Yesterday, I decided to add some stripes between the taillights ala the 1970 Duster 340. I also added some 340 lettering to the hood scoops and then I cleared the body and hood this morning. Having dealt with the side windows on my '70 Duster 340 WIP a couple of years ago, I deepened the channel in the side panel. And, I thinned the edges of the windows...just to be on the safe side. I don't want to take a chance of these windows popping out when I insert the interior and chassis. More to come...
FASTBACK340 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Very cool progress! Can't wait to see this done.
mrmike Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 Thanks John! I am hoping to find some time soon to try and get the Duster buttoned up.
mrmike Posted June 30, 2012 Author Posted June 30, 2012 Since my Duster is 99% complete, I thought I would give you a sneak peak before heading off to bed. Just some touchups and it'll be done! Final pics in the morning. More to come...
Bartster Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Oh, you are SUCH a tease! Can't wait to see it, Mike. l followed it all the way! Bart.
