mustangrock Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Can i use rustoleum automotive primer on plastic models? Thanks
Longbox55 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Test it first on some scrap. My experience with most Rustoleum products, particularly on mid-'80s AMT kits, will craze styrene.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Bill, that's been my experience too. Ruined a few models using it. My primer of choice, Ryan, is Plastikote.
mustangrock Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 thanks, and ill see if i can find any plastikote.
mikemodeler Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Ryan, Most auto parts stores will have duplicolor or plastikote primers available in their paint aisle, if you don't see it, ask them! NAPA carries duplicolor, as do most of the others. The Rustoleum is a bit heavier and will bury details in the primer coat. Always spray a test piece for compatibility.
