I participated from 1986-1989, when I received my FIA liftime ban.

And the Americans among you might be delighted that I participated with a Corvette.

Awesome Vette, what engine is in it? The red C2 in the background of the first picture looks cool also.

I built it off a wrecked '69 of which I basically used the frame only.

It has a 454 with a 396 crankshaft to get a shorter stroke and at the same time comply with the 7 litre limit in place back when it was raced.

It has a Crower injection and a custom made Borla exhaust to comply with the 100 dbA rule. The rest of the drivetrain is a Borg & Beck clutch, followed by a Muncie M22 rock crusher and a BMW 7series LSD diff. Steering is rack-and-pinion from an Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina, suspension is coilovers at each corner, and brakes are Brembo from an old Porsche 935.

OK, 2 questions for Christian.

Have you built a scale Vette of your 1:1?

How/why were you banned?

If I'm out of line just don't answer the 2nd query.

Ad 1) -ish. I have an ongoing 1/20 scale project based on a MPC '69.

Ad 2) Reckless driving, believe it or not. Would you like me to elaborate?

Have you posted any pics on here that I might have missed?

Elaborate? Only if you want to :)

My family was originally from the Blackpool area, is that anywhere near you?

No, I never posted pics of the model here. I'm not sure where it is atm.

The real Corvette was campaigned in the Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy (STT) from 1986 to 1989.

The Trophy (i.e. the series) was won by us in 1987 and 1988, and we were again in the lead halfways through season 1989. This was not going down well with the series' Sponsors, who would have preferred a domestically make to win. They lobbied the officials accordingly and they changed the rules several times, clearly to put large displacement American cars at a disadvantage. Still, we complied, adapted, and kept winning. Then I got the impression, that even the race marshalls seemed to have been bribed to somehow hold us up, which was especially apparent in the laxness with which they used the blue flags in case I wanted to overtake. Or rather, they didn't wave them at all. I interpreted this my way and reasoned that if nobody has to make space for me, I can make this space myself in a very old-fashioned, but extremely effective way. So after I had pushed three other humpties into the pebbles, I got black-flagged, disqualified, a FIA court hearing was ordered. I lost the case and my FIA license has been revoked for life.

Mind you, BMWs or Porsches bumping into the rear of my car three times during a warm-up lap never were an issue and my protests in this regard regularily dismissed.

And to get to Blackpool from where I live takes me less than an hour.

Quite unfair Christian. If they took politics out of racing it would almost always be better (take politics out of everything would suit me).

There is a computer racing sim called GTL (Grand Touring Legends) that has '69 Vettes in it, the cars have paintable templates but no 3D model with the modification that you had. There are however some people that have made different modifications to the game cars, maybe someone could do your car, one name that comes to mind is a fellow named umma gumma (I think that is the correct spelling). If it at all interests you I could ask around.

LOL. "Reckless driving"? I guess they don't watch NASCAR do they?

To this day I can't help it having the impression it not so much mattered what was done, but who did it.

People did things on the Nürburgring this weekend, that were more severe than what I got a lifetime ban for:

Watch closely at 0:54 and 1:59.

Anyway, after being banned from FIA for life, I moved on to this:

and never looked back.
