foxbat426 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I've never used this stuff, but my local autozone has a nice selection. Just curious how builders here are using this for airbrushing, if they use it at all? Do you decant it? is it the same to spray this through an airbrush as lets say the little testor enamel bottles? up until now the little testor bottles is all I use and i use them through an airbrush. thx, john
Harold Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 (edited) Its a modified laquer. I spray it straight out of the can and get great results. Just be sure to use a good non- filling primer before you shoot it. The filler primer without regular sandable primer on top will cause sandscratch swelling and headaches. Steven2 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 (edited) I believe it's some sort of lacquer and pretty potent. It can attack bare plastic so definitely prime. I always decant it with a straw. I've used several clears over it and they all worked. (duplicolor, testors gloss enamel, testors CLS gloss, 2 part urethane and even future on some small parts) As you say, there's a great choice of colors and one can will probably be enough for 3 or more cars if you decant. Bartster Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I've only used it once on bare plastic & got a perfect paint job. l'm guessing l got very lucky as since then l've heard that's a no-no! l would follow the above advice. l certainly will from now on. Bart.
Guest Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Harold's right, it sprays great right out of the can. I shot mine over Plasti Kote sandable primer and cleared over it with Tamiya TS-13. According to the label, it's an acrylic laquer.
