My local Michaels stores carries a very limited amount of modeling supplies and there are no local hobby shops. My questions is what's a good brand of clearcoat that would be on par with the testors enamel based clear that I could buy a a hardware store or Wal-mart? minwax??

also is clear coat, as in testors enamel based clear coats just polyurethane?? just trying to figure all of this out. i was going to use the testors "wet look", but i would like to stick with enamel as per Donn Yosts instructions.

Thx again, john

was MM clear ever enamel? i know the rest of the line is, but their wet look clear, their normal clear and their dullcoat all smell like laquer to me and dry like it too. i was always kind of puzzled by that

Mm clear topcoat is enamel ! If you have to order it on line ...... So be it ! Mix and matching is a mixed bag at best . More often than not it

Will come back to haunt you !

thats what i'm told - michaesl stores has 3 different spray bottles of testors clear - they are all laquer based. i was just wondering if there was a good alternative to the testors brand in an enamel.

Testor's clear with either a 1260 or 1261 # are rattle can lacquers that are enamel safe.Just don't apply the entire can in one sitting. This also comes in bottles if you are using an AB.

Agree with Mike, you can use lacquer over enamel, in this case the clear coats, just do a few light mist coats, get the entire body covered, then do a wet coat.

While I agree with the statement concerning the white enamel , the rest is totally off the mark !

Testors clear enamel laid overtop metallics , pearls , or candies does nothing but enhance the depth and richness of the color.

As for the white enamel or other standard colors , clear is not necessary . Simply polish them out , and you will end up with a beautiful high gloss shine on your model's finish .
