jaydar Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I have the Revell Skip's 1960 Corvette up next in the pile. The kit comes with custom wheels only! Thanks, Joe.
Mike Kucaba Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Yes! Actually the New tool issue by Revell is miles ahead of the issue you have, however the issue you have was tooled in the late 50's early 60's and aside from the multi-piece body is supposedly quite accurate. Stock wheels should be easy enough to find, and you'll need stock hubcaps.
jaydar Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 Thanks Mike, What is the latest tooliing for the '60 Corvette???? joe.
Mike Kucaba Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 I don't know about the latest, but the Revell kit to get would be the one with the black car w/flames on it.
Junkman Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 (edited) Interestingly, the old Revell multipiece '60 Corvette is in fact a '59 Corvette. The wheel covers from the AMT '59 Corvette, which interestingly is a '60 Corvette, fit the Babymoon wheels in the Revell kit perfectly. Strip the chrome off the Revell wheels, paint them red, and glue on the wheel covers from the AMT. The only thing thats inaccurate after the operation is that the orientation of the 'flags' in the centre of the caps is wrong now. On a '59 Corvette, they should be perpendicular to the simulated knock-off indentaion, whereas on a '60 they are parallel to it. Few people, if any, will ever notice the difference, though. Gosh, I was hoping I could forever keep stuff like this hidden from you guys. This is a Revell "1960" (really a 1959) Corvette built from the Kandy Kiss issue way back when I was still in my brush painting phase. But wheel-wise, I did exactly what I described above - put the AMT wheelcovers on the Revell wheels. I kept this wreck only for the purpose to re-use the wheels on a new build. espo Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Your "brush paint" job is better than my "spray can" jobs.

I don't know what you mean by the orientation of the flags. All 1956 to 1962 Corvette spinners are the same.
Junkman Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 (edited) I don't know what you mean by the orientation of the flags. All 1956 to 1962 Corvette spinners are the same. Even better if I'm wrong. One thing less to worry about. So they are a perfect fit. Your "brush paint" job is better than my "spray can" jobs. Yes, I managed to develop the technique to near perfection. But the colours are all wrong. Maybe I could bring this one back to life, but you haven't seen the driver's side. The front clip became unattached, i.e. the glue seam split. Also, the joins behind the doors are visible. I hadn't yet developed the art of filling back then. Edited June 24, 2012 by Junkman
