weirich1 Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I've got some PSF wheels (23" chrome Ts with awesome tires), what is the best way to trim the wheel back center post down without losing the center whole? I ground another set down previously and lost the hole. I want to do it this time so I can use them on late-model Revell Mustangs. Any suggestions?
Wayne Buck Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) For those, I use a drill bit...1/4" or so (or about twice the size of the "stud".) Center up the bit in the axle hole, using it as a pilot, and lightly turn the bit by hand. Let the bit do the work. You don't want to remove the material too quickly or have the bit start digging in and gouging the plastic. If done lightly and with some patience, it will shorten the studs without losing the hole in the middle. Edited July 6, 2012 by Wayne Buck
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) I would suggest you stick a drill bit or a piece of something similar in the hole and mark it , so you know how deep your hole actually is. Then transfer this mark to the outside of the center post, and you'll know exactly how far you can go without losing the hole. This always works for me. As Wayne says, then you can open the hole up as far as you need to. Of course, be careful you don't cut through to the face of the wheel. I've ruined a few by not measuring carefully enough and getting in a hurry. Edited July 6, 2012 by Ace-Garageguy
