Basic Diorama help,making a field.

I would like to make a basic field with a dirt road through it on a base for a beater I just finished.I have the base I just don't know what to use and where to start.

I strongly advise looking at model railroad sites. Scenery is their bread and butter.

Just for kicks look at the base for the Mouse RodI I just completed. I used Woodland Scenics Mold-A-Scene Plaster .. any hydra-cal will do . and added sifted dirt from outside. Some acrylic paint and some Silflor weeds did the job. I dragged a stick thru the wet plaster to make a couple tire tracks.
