imatt88 Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Hey all, I know this has been hashed over many times, but I have an issue.... I'm trying to strip the paint off a '69 Monogram Super Bee, normally Easy Off does the trick, however..... I've tried several applications of Easy Off, soaking the parts in Purple Power for two weeks, and.. Tried soaking the parts in Rubbing alcohol thinking maybe its acrylic paint.. nothing seems to work, Anyone got any suggestions? this paint is tough Cheers, Ian
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Sounds like Testors lacquer. I had some that was so tough I had to use real paint stripper, which of course attacked the plastic under the paint too. Had to really scramble to get it all off in time to avoid destroying the part, and I don't recommend it. There was an "acrylic top coat stripper" on the market several years back that we used on 1:1 fiberglass cars, but I haven't seen it for some time. I had one a while back that had been shot in 1:1 urethane basecoat / clear and nothing touched it, BUT, after soaking in brake fluid for a week, I was able the zip the paint off very carefully with an X-Acto chisel tip blade.
my80malibu Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Sounds like you have tried all the regular Avenues.I would try the Purple Pond again, However this time put the container that you are using to soak it in. Somewhere where it can be Agitated. "I have used my clothes dryer before". The agitating causes friction which help strip away at the layers of paint, I also scrub the body with warm water and a scrubbing pad to help open up the pores of the paint. To allow the chemical to pentrate.
slusher Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Sand the car just a little to get the gloss off ans make it where the purple power gets under it or use the alcohol. the alcolol worked for me after a little sanding.
