Old Sprinter Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I want to take a break from building sprint cars and I love supermodifeds almost as much as sprints. I drew plans up this weekend and I'm ready to start fabing. A lot of you may have never even seen a supermodified. They are wild and probably the fastest race cars, out there, on a half mile pavement track. Big blocks and small blocks all in the 900+ HP range; 70+% left side weight bias and huge wings that move up when entering the corner and go down flat on the straight aways. This should be fun.
Old Sprinter Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 Here's some pictures of the real guys for those who haven't seen a super before.
futurattraction Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Cool! I'll check in to see your progress...
Prostreet Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Oh yea, love these cars, some nice drawings Ken, Can't wait to see the chassis work.
comp1839 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 looks like the start to another incredibly awesome build, ken!!!!
vintagedragfan Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 COOL, those are some B.A. lookin cars, I have never got to see them run!
Old Sprinter Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 That's a super alright, Randy, nice work. Thanks Dave, Scott and Bill, this will be a fun project. Joe I started on the frame and I've decided these supers are part Indy Car ( the wings and nose), part stock car ( the frame), part dragster ( the motor) and part sprint car (all the rest of it)
Bernard Kron Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 These are extraordinarily good looking, sophisticated, contemporary machines, with a no-holds-barred approach to design and engineering lacking in quite a few supposedly "superior" racing series. Love the chassis work and design drawings. Can't wait to see more!!!
Old Sprinter Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 Thanks Bernard and Santiago. Here's a progress photo and a plan I drew of a 1963 Watson Indy roadster. I thought someone would find it interesting.
rel14 Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Go to www.daararacing.com , A.J. Watson, Bill Wendt, and a couple more have that Watson at Booneville. As we speak,. Hoping to set a new land speed record with it,,, Pictures of it being built in there also... Bill Wendt already set a land speed record last year in a Midget...
Old Sprinter Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 Ken, do you sell your Blue Prints? you know me as bubba930 from another forum, and I am be going to be watching your build as I did with you Dirt Modified, and Sprinter, all are really amazing builds forsure! MIKE AKAI Thanks Mike and yes I do sell blueprints for 1/8 scale sprints ( todays cars and from the 80s). vintage 60s midget, supermodified and the Watson Roadster plans. All in 1/8 scale. The sprint plans show how to build every part even the tires and wheels. They're 12 pages of 12X18 sheets. You need to e-mail me at kmeaders@q.com if you're interested.
Old Sprinter Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Okay, the part Indy car, part sprint car and part stock car is moving along.
Old Sprinter Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) Thanks Bill; I've got some more done on this beast. Check out the inboard spring/shock set up on the front end. The rear wing still need the compressed air canisters that raise it up, in the back, when entering a corner. Edited August 22, 2012 by Old Sprinter
baddgass Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Ken this is one bad mother, outstanding work. Looks like it will fly.
vintagedragfan Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 very nice job on the spring shocks! looking just plain B.A.!
Romell R Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Man I love this build , keep up the outstanding work!
Mooneyzs Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Ken... this is flat out Awesome!!! Man I sure love your work and how you hand draw all of your prints. I sure hope you can make it up for the Desert Scale Classic next year. would love to see your builds in person.
Old Sprinter Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 Thanks Derrick, Bill, Romell and Chris. I won't let anything prevent me from being at that Desert Classic next year. I've got her up on wheels and I'm still messing with the body and making radius rods, nerf bars, etc. Like Romell says " details, details, there's always more details until you're finished."
vintagedragfan Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 very nice craftsmanship Ken! are the wings styrene also?
Old Sprinter Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 very nice craftsmanship Ken! are the wings styrene also? Thank you; they're aluminum on top and styrene in the front.
