Foxer Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 (edited) I have to glue a .04" x .04" styrene square to the side of a vent window as the post. It will be sanded flush at the ends and BMF applied. I'm afraid of my usual glass measures since it will be handled a lot. I usually use some watch crystal cement when gluing glass but do have some Testors Clear Parts Cement, which I haven't used yet. I'm tempted to use the Testers but not sure how good it sticks. I'd definitely like to use CA but have heard too much about it will craze glass (plastic). Any thoughts would be appreciated. Mike Kucaba Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 You can dip/ apply Future to the clear part and that would protect it from CA. You can also use clear epoxy. You could also use a clear acrylic, like Future, to bond it. It all depends on how strong the bond needs to be.
Foxer Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 Ah, Mike .. thanks for the response . .where's my head at? Of course, epoxy is the answer! It will take all the abuse, filing and sanding I can throw at it. It must be my dislike of epoxy that it didn't come to mind ... anything two-part is a pain and wasteful, but it IS the right one for this job.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Use the 30-minute,as the 5 minute stuff just yellows too much. I also found quite by accident that epoxy really is much easier too work with when warmed a bit.
Ramfins59 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Mike you can pick up some non-frosting CA glue at your LHS (if they carry it) which works pretty well.
Foxer Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 What's BMV? man Harry ... my knuckles hurt from that rap It's fixed! The spell checker highlights BMF so I never notice as I ignore it.
JJER Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Methinks Harry was a nun in his last life..never spares the rule . JJER
