Fat Brian Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 You will probably have to go with an automotive paint like Duplicolor for the body, I haven't seen a model color close to that. It kind of looks like Pontiac medium blue but I won't swear to it. As for the engine color, check the third pic down on this link. It looks like Pontiac baby blue on the engines. http://onlycarsandcars.blogspot.com/2011/06/challenger-1-bonneville-streamliner-by.html Here is some medium Pontiac blue
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I should know this, but I can't seem to remember. I don't THINK the original car had metallic paint. I could very well be wrong. Photographs from the time make it look like a lighter almost baby blue sometimes. The last time I saw the car, it did have Pontiac blue on the engines, which would probably be correct, as the engines supplied by Pontiac were used, test units and were probably painted in the factory color.
2002p51 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 For what it's worth, here's a couple of photos of the car as it sits in the NHRA museum in Pomona, CA.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I imagine you're building the last, supercharged version out-of-the-box, but the FIRST version, fuel-injected but not blown, without the 'hood' bulges for the superchargers, WAS painted light baby-blue. It's on the cover of the December 1959 Hot Rod magazine. Remember Thompson did the 406.6 mph semi-record run in September of 1960, so the metallic blue paint color, if it WAS a factory color, wouldn't be later than 1961in the chip books.
