phil55 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 i have a missing windscreen on a kit that im building...is it possible to fabricate one from another kit ? can clear plastic be reshaped without causing damage too it? ~`phil
Fat Brian Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Clear kit plastic is so brittle it's almost impossible to reshape. Depending on what kit it is you can either try to find something that fits from a similar kit or makr your own out of clear sheet plastic. If you make your own you can shape a piece of paper until it fits and then cut it out of plastic. Maybe you could post in the wanted section and see if someone has what you need.
phil55 Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 cheers brian .....thanks for your help!
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 There's a really excellent thread about making compound-curved windshields from the plastic large soft-drink bottles are made from. It requires some work, but the results are outstanding. It's not too far back in the 'tips and tricks' forum below. Most windshields in post-'54 cars are compound-curved, meaning they have curves in two dimensions. Flat plastic will not replicate this satisfactorily, and the tutorial shows how to heat-mold clear plastic over a form to make a compound-curved part.
Fat Brian Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Very true, if you can get a windsheild, even a bad one, you can fix it enough to make a heat formed copy of it.
phil55 Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 great ...thanks for your help with this guys!
