Quick question on the Ford LN8000 interior. (Yes, this is still the

same project I started months go.) When I add the shifter to the

interior tub, it is in the center of the passenger seat. Maybe it's

just me, but that seems a little far away from the driver, and quite

uncomfortable for the passenger. Is this in the correct spot? Most of

the pics I've been able to find are of the manual transmission, not

the automatic.

Thanks,

Guess nobody knows Jim. You would think with all the "Experts" here someone would know? :D

I'll chime in.. the Ford brochures I have show manual transmissions, I have never seen the automatic set-up in person like the AMT kit has.

I have the L-Series brochures from 1970, 75 and 80.

All the automatic controls I ever seen were mounted in the middle of the dash near the bottom or on a bracket tower on the floor. I would think you can mount it anyplace you want since its cable control rather than shifter direct or linkage type...hope this helps

Ken,

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I think I'll try and center it between the two seats. Seems to make sense.

When I build this kit again, I'm planning on making it a LNT-8000 tractor. Any suggestions on a doner transmission or aftermarket transmission?

For a day cab tractor 8000, I would just use any of the older AMT 350 cummins , like in the Diamond Reo kit, or a smaller Detroit...If left as a single axle the smaller engine that came with it will work[3208]...also a 534 gas was the big engine in the 70's in the LN-800 if you wanted to gas tractor...
