i notice that my posts of a diorama restoration and of a motorcycle were moved from, i think, under glass and workbench forums to the diorama forum and the total ghetto "other" forum. seems kind of like its not really worthwhile posting in those forums because no one really looks at them or at least i dont and i notice from the typical number of views that not many others do.

the question is: if one wanted to post a build thread concerning a motorcycle, one cannot post it in the workbench section? if one does it will be moved to the "other" hinterland and the same with a diorama? and if one were building a diorama, or even cars for placement in a diorama, one must post it in the diorama section and again not in the workbench or under glass forums or the posts will be moved to the "no one looks because no one really knows its there" wilderness?

if that is the case then i think the mgmt is making a big mistake. i think this oversegmentation is ruining this place by making it near impossible to find subjects one might be interested in. particularly that "other" wasteland and the inclusion of motorcycles there amongst the anime, figures, war stuff, submarines, aircraft and just plain junk just make it a waste of time to post build threads because no one is going to see them or follow them.

if i were to suggest a change, how about if one is allowed to post build threads in the build forum and completed builds in the under glass forum and then if they must be moved, moderators or whoever masterminds this stuff wait at least for 2 weeks of inactivity in the thread (no new posts and no new views) before moving them.

the over segmentation has really become ridiculous what with the "drag" section, the "trucks" (including pickups which i think is absurd but i dont pay the bills) section and the 30 other sections few if any pay any attention to. its time to simplify once again if you ask me and of course no one did but i do find it very difficult to find subjects here that interest me anymore but thats because i tend to stay in the first few forums on the home page.

anyone else agree? disagree? think "its all good"?

I'm not even going to ask what "ghetto" means.

I don't know why the number of post views or posts in a section matters. Gregg has stated many times this is a community where we come to share our work, ideas, thoughts related to model building, etc., so it doesn't matter (to me) if a post gets one view and zero comments or it gets 1,205 views and 17 pages of comments. It's not a competition, and there is no trophy for getting the most comments or having the most posts.

Some sections are newer, so they will naturally have fewer posts than sections which have been around since the start of the forum in 2007.

Yes. There are specific sections, so please use them. As Harry has stated many, many times, you can't please everyone

Nobody but you can control how you browse the forum, but if one member asks for the forum to be reorganized to suit his/her tastes, that really goes against the community feeling Gregg has genuinely tried to create here on the forum, doesn't it?

I guess what I would suggest is starting your own forum, which you can set up how you like, and run it how you see fit. I can tell you from first hand experience it's a lot of work, but I think it's worth doing if you truly want something different which nobody else offers.

This "reorganizing the sections" topic was beaten with a stick a few months ago, so please, let's not go there again.

I'm not suggesting any change, but what gets me is that things were seperated, but not given equal pavement on the board. There is no "bench" or "glass" for anything but the cars section. I think at least the trucks should have had one of each ( I agree with the pick up comment ) , or the work bench be moved to the community section for everyone to post what try are currently working on, and then place the Di ished product in it appropriate place ( trucks, drag, cars, dios... Etc ) this is my personal opinion, but I wonder sometimes why the large scale was seperated at all, I'm sure there were some that wanted it, but I think the scale of the subject shouldn't make much difference where it's at as much as the subject matter itself.

I do feel the moderators have been doing a good job at what they have been informed to do. I've seen a lot of really obviouse posting in the wrong spot, that find there home rather quick. Keep up the good work guys !!

JBwelda: First you complain that the staff put your motorcycle build in the other section with a bunch of different builds, then you wonder why everything is separated into different sections and why it's not all together? Isn't that a little counter intuitive?

As I've said in every other thread about this subject, I personally love the separation, since it makes finding the certain builds you're looking for that much easier. Same with separating the large scale builds. Why do a search in the under glass section for a 1/12 Bel Air, and have it spit out every 1/25 Bel Air build as well, when you can have the large scale area separate and not have to worry about attempting to search by scale (since the search function never seems to work that smoothly).

Edit: As for the separation of pickups and semis, I like this as well since I spend more time looking at the pickups/SUVs/vans section than the semi truck section. I hate how they have it all combined at Scale Auto (also including rescue/maintenance cars) since I have to scroll past all the semi trucks to find the builds I want to see.

Honestly I don't see the issue with a little separation. If you want to see everything, or are too lazy to click into a few different forums, then click the "view new content" button and you're all set.

This has been hashed out and decided long ago. The forum is separated into specific sections for a simple reason: to allow people to find specific topics without having to wade through a bunch of unrelated threads.

Every subsection of the forum is very clearly labeled and even has a description of what should be posted there. I really don't understand why anyone would have a problem, for example, with posting a motorcycle in the section specifically for motorcycles.

Makes perfect sense to me.

i always click "view new content". and i initially read threads with descriptive titles. or at least titles which make me curious what the thread is all about. unless, and i know there's cross posters out there, i read something in another forum about the same car and then come back here to dig around and find out more poop.

so i'd say the most important thing in having your post read is to give it an interesting title.

The segmentation of the forum is so that you can find specific model subjects more easily. If you're interested in, say, diecast models, you would look where? Why, that's right... in the diecast section! What a concept!

How on earth do you figure that specific sections for specific models makes things harder to find???

As has been said above a couple of times, I always click on the "view new content" so I get to see EVERYTHING NEW THAT HAS BEEN POSTED SINCE I LAST SIGNED IN... Seems simple enough to me... but what do I know.

ghetto means no one goes there. its kind of a sophisticated term used in urban planning and just as relevant when discussing organization of in this case information. when you want to hide something you ghettoize it and stick it somewhere no one ever goes. like the educational sub band of FM radio, like public TV, like non-mainstream music in a music shop...ghettoize it.

i am not "complaining" about moving my motorcycle or any little agenda like that. thanks for your helpful suggestion.

so its been hashed over...i guess i dont read every thread here because they are spread out all over the place.

i was going to ask a couple more rational questions but i think i will just save my time for some useful pursuit and leave the administration here to the brainiacs who rule. because they know.
