buy as many magazines as you can when at shows and somebody is selling them for 50 cents each. go through them and cut out anything you like. put them in a notebook or box, and refer to them often.

I have about 10 years of SAE (willing to trade for kits) and a couple years of MCM. Any other tips & techniques magazines that I see, I usually buy. When there's a tutorial posted here, I'll print hard copy and then I keep those in a binder.

I've found that Street Rodder and Custom Rodder, Collectible Automobile, Ol' Skool Rods, etc., are good for reference pictures. I cut out pics of the cars that I really like and keep them in a folder for reference ideas. I also like books like Custom Cars of the 50's & 60's by Andy Southard to have great reference pictures. As you can tell, I like Street Rods and Customs, but look through the magazine rack at Barnes & Noble, etc., for other magazines for reference pictures.
