cjstranick Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I've always enjoyed model cars. Built a couple when I was younger, though they were never that good. Been looking for a hobby besides drawing and working on my actual car, and figured I'd get back into this. Just purchased a model kit off eBay to start the hobby. It is an old Saito BMW M6 model kit. I want to try and find some Volkswagen kits, mainly from the body style that I own, which is the mk4 or 2003-2005 model years. But any would do. Here are some pics of the model, I haven't received it yet but I can't wait till I do.
rel14 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Welcome to the Mad Mad World of modeling. There are lot of Great modelers here to help ya....
cjstranick Posted September 15, 2012 Author Posted September 15, 2012 I've noticed, there are already a few things I've seen others do that I want to try and do for this model or maybe another that I'm currently tryig to get, which is a model of a Celica GT-Four. One of my favorite cars, just wish they had them in the US.
phil-east Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 welcome, as a relatively new model builder myself i would advise you to walk before you can crawl. get yourself some cheapish kits and build them up to hone your skills, just try to focus on clean builds and nice paint. I made the mistake of building a model i really wanted as my first and messed it up pretty bad. I have not been able to get my hands on the kit since and regret rushing in. good luck with your building and i look forward to seeing some of your work.
JasonFL Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Welcome to the modeling madness Corey. It's a hobby that takes some patients so don't get frustrated and if you need some help don't hesitate to ask around. There are a lot of great people here with tons of helpful advice. Enjoy
cjstranick Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 I plan on taking my time haha, I don't want to mess it up. Thanks for all the advice. I've already started looking at some guides and how-tos. YOu'll be sure to hear some questions from me I'm sure.
Terry Sumner Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 "Hey" back atcha! Like I said in the other newbies intro...new guy gets to buy the oldtimers a round. Maybe I'll come off the Weight Watchers for this one time...I'll have some Glen Levits on the rocks please!
crazyjim Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Welcome Corey. Take your time, ask questions, and have some fun.
Skydime Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Welcome back to the hobby as an adult. Have patience and ask lots of questions and you will be fine. I think Gregg did a thread called "Back To Basics" on a 67ish Charger that I would recommend to anyone getting into the hobby. It really helps.
