1965 Chevy Chevelle SS

I am started my next build now and am going to step up my detailing a little bit since I have a little time on the bench now

I will be building the Revell california wheels 1965 Chevelle, but will be doing the stock SS Z-16 version. I really enjoy factory muscle cars so I'll give this one a shot.

I am trying my hand at foiling before primer and paint and cleaning off the paint on the scripts and lettering after primer and paint:

Here is the body in primer, I went with duplicolor sandable primer. Seems to build up enough and not fill in detail too bad:

Before revealing Bare metal foil:

Using a simple pencil eraser seemed to work well:

Now I will scribe the panel lines, do any bodywork and wetsand then one more stage of light primer. Thanks for looking!

Yea Steve, i use duplicolor filler primer as well..........it works great, and doesnt fill in the detail.

im liking this project, cant wait to see more

Here is the engine half glued together. Will take some time to clean up any visible seams.

And while I wait on primer to dry I like to pick away at small details. I clipped the exhaust off the tree and remove the molded clamps. Finally going to try the P.E. muffler clamps I bought a while back

Thanks Bryan. I have used the walmart primer before too, but the duplicolor seems to cure faster for sanding. I really like doing the foil this way so far as long is it turns out good in the end. A lot cleaner in my opinion. I am debating a vinyl top on this one, but have never tried that yet. I am doing so many new things with build I don't know if I should just go all out or try it later. I have time to decide I guess lol. Anyone out there ever use the MCG photoetch set for this specific build? I have used some P.E. stuff a little now, but never a set for a specific car. Are they worth the time and money? Thanks All!

if youre gonna do a vinyl top, i forget which company makes it, but someone makes a kit to do it, instead of using maksing tape.........the kit looks alot better.

yea steve that walmart primer (colorplace) doesnt dry fast enuff for me.... altho i do like the colorplace aluminum paint, it has a good look to it, and if you rub your finger over it a bit, it shines up nice, kinda like metallizer paints do...

Well, the front lettering was just not working out for me so I decided to remove them. They will be replaced with P.E. lettering in the future.

Looking good. Never thought about using a eraser to remove the paint. In the future I would use two later to bare metal foil. Doesnt take much to burn thru it.

Lookin' good. Be very carefu l when you apply the letters on the hood. I 've found it easier to do them from the middle out. If you have some "Ghosting" of the original letters, that would help in the letter placement.

I have several of the kits, as it is one of my favorite cars, and the first car I owned was a '65 Malibu. The MCG Photoetch kit is great!!! I used it on this one.

I would like to do a hardtop with a vinyl roof to bookend with this one. I'll probably pull the 'vette wheels for the factory wheel covers when I do it.

I got a little more done this weekend. It has been hard for me to stay at the workbench due to a back injury at work so I am moving a little slow on this build LOL . I hope to get the body in color and clear this week sometime weather permitting.
