phil55 Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 i have restored a couple of 60s gluebombs... but often struggle to separate parts that have been attached with "old school" type glues ...does anyone have any special techniques to separate parts without causing more damage???~ phil
1930fordpickup Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Sometimes you can put them in the freezer and they come apart with a little pressure . Have you put the part in the paint stripper yet that can help . I have found that using the back of the number 11 knife to scribe the seam helps sometimes.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 .....and sometimes you have to get real horsey. This was such a pathetic mess....... ....that I had to take it apart by grinding out the glued flange on the backside with a Dremel..... ....twice.....
phil55 Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 you got that right!!..seems like some of those old glues melt deep into the plastic and the only way is to separate them is to use surgery
rel14 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Sometimes.. Easy off will work, and get it loose. But major surgery is the main part.
