martinfan5 Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I was trying to do this build as secret build for Dec club theme, well the cat is out of the bag, I have a big mouth sorta speak and had to show part of it what I was working on at this months (Nov) meeting, anyways , the clubs Dec theme is Mopar Musle and lights and siren, so I have been wanting for a while now, do a police car build with working lights, so what better time to do it right?. So got me another Lindberg Dodge Charger police kit, ordered up a bunch of LEDs and set of to make it light up , since this build is already under way, I will catch up with what I have done so far. My goal is to keep everything looking like its kit form, so that is presenting a small challenge, but will get into that later. Here is the first set of LED's , I have a second set on the way
martinfan5 Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Engine and chassis almost done Here is a video of the lightbar mock up , I have not decided on what style light bar I am going to use, trying to find one that will conceal all the LEDs wires is hard http://youtu.be/XX_HZVJBIKk
martinfan5 Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Here are the the light piece's that come with the kit that go on the pushbar, I decided to use them on the rear deck, I also plan on using another set I have on the pushbar with LEDs in them as well as you can see here, the LEDs fit perfectly inside after I cut out the bottom part And here you can see a mock up pic on the rear shelf, note, the LEDs are flashing, I was to capture both at the same time
Scuderia Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 that's pretty darn cool man!! Looks nice! is there a special kit that it runs through for the flashing? Or is it more basic than that (electrical is NOT my strong point)
martinfan5 Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Each LED flashes on its own, so all thats needed is power, the only down side, is there is no sync to them, so sometimes, all the LEDs will flash at the same time.
Scuderia Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Ah right on i get it now. I didn't realize the Lindberg Chargers were full detail. they're nice. where do you get yours, if i may?
martinfan5 Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Yea, I really like the Lindberg Charger kits, all of them, love the detail, I got the kit from Bernie's house of models , one of my fellow club members got it for me, he knows my cheap ways, so he worked his magic for me, I thank Bernie for helping out with this one.
wagoneer Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Nice idea! I'm wondering if BMF or similar could be used to conduct the power to the led's, a bit like a printed circuit board I suppose. That way, power could run down the C posts into the boot (trunk) or wherever you intend to put the batteries.
Zarana-X Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) Interesting. I'm also interested in thos LED's. I've got a few police type cars in the works, as well. Edited November 19, 2012 by Zarana-X
martinfan5 Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 I dont know if BMF could work, someone might come along that would know, I purchased everything here http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/

showbuilder Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 bmf will work for the leds, the corvette i built is done with bmf.
lanesteele240 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 any hobby train dealer will have a ton on leds for sale. walthers.com is a mega dealer of train parts. that is where i get mine from
martinfan5 Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 I got a little bit more done, not on the LED side, but the interior is pretty much finished, just some small details to do, the body has been painted, up next for it is smoothing out the paint.
martinfan5 Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 The interior is pretty much done here is the second set of LEDs for this build, I have the headlight/taillight flasher kit, and two more LEDs, the two LEDs I got are red/blue flashing, these are for the push bar and here is the pushbar all wired up , I messed up and drilled the holes to far over the wrong side of the leads for the LEDs, but the leads coming off fill up the holes good enough
Space Cowboy Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 This will be one fantastic build. I like the Leds..Keep it coming...................
