captin Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Bought this beauty about a week ago its the first willys I've done. Ive heard so many good things about these willys that i thought i try one for myself. just got done putting the primer coat on thought id go with the black primer this time something new.
Terror Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I bought the same kit yesterday,The kit looks flash free and things seem to fit well.good luck with yours..
woody . Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 you will like it iam just finishing the same kit.
slusher Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I bought the kit also. are you going to leave it flat black...??
captin Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 Popular kit to have this time of year i guess lol.....and carl im not going to leave it flat black im actually going to make this one shiny I've never done a shiny paint job so im testing the waters with this one.
Brett Barrow Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Realy fun kit to build. Cut off the tabs and fill in the notches for holding the hood down, they'll show on the finished model. Other than that, it's a great kit. Could use skinnier tires and shallower wheels up front, to give it a true period gasser look, but it'll still look good OOtB
captin Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Here is the color i chose for my first willys. i wanted something different i tend to stick with darker color so im branching out a little.
slusher Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Really nice color, what brand and shade is it???
Dr. Cranky Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 This one and the STREET MACHINE version are on Doctor Cranky's TOP TEN LIST OF BEST KITS. After the AMT 66 NOVA kit, it's the kit with the most robbed parts. The engine and the frame, the foot pedal, the moon tank . . . oh, the list goes on and on . . . you are in for a real treat. I am currently building 4 of them. Yes, one is never enough. LOL.
captin Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Thanks guys the color is actually nail polish that i bought at target i couldn't find the color i wanted in testor or model masters. Doctor cranky i was inspired by you for getting a willys and when i couldn't find the color i wanted i was watching your videos on nail polish so i thought i give it a shot.
captin Posted December 9, 2012 Author Posted December 9, 2012 Just got done painting the willys turned out better than i thought still have to wet sand it down then clear it. I've never done a shiny model before this is my first any suggestions on clear i was just going to bbuy model masters rattle can clear.
captin Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 Here is an update on my willys chassis all put together. i bought some of tamiyas weather master D kit to get the heat stained look on the headers work out pretty well i think hope you like.
Sixx Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Looking good!!!! I'm also working on one as well!!
AzTom Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 NICE! I love these Willys. Your color choice is going to look great. I have never sprayed the nail polish before, is it normal to be that rough? That looks like a lot of work I have four of the Gasser kits and one street rod kit and have not started one yet, been too busy with the diecasts. I do have four built Revell kits in my collection that were given to me by friends that knew I loved the Willys. I need to dig one out and get started.
captin Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Thanks guys and spraying nail polish is pretty simple to do i watched a couple of Dr. cranky videos on youtube on how to spray nail polished helped out a lot and it looks rough in that pic cause there is no clear on it yet i recently cleared then wet sanded and polished it and it is pretty shiny now ill post a pic of it on here
