The current project is a box stock '58 T-Bird. This has always been a favorite of mine as I was only 14 when I checked out a brand new one in a dealers show room!! Of course there is lots of chrome! It seems that I have seen info regarding builders spraing a matte or satin clear on all of the chrome to make it appear more realistic. What are the collective thoughts of this group?

hmm i never tried it , sounds interesting ..

but ...

for me most kit chrome looks too unrealistic and betetr said very rough .. i mean the moldlines are often there and for me personally respraying it always looks better

now and this is a shame in holland we have like diy markets called gamma and they sell silver spray cans ..

in holland moddelers call that can gamma chrome , because when you spray it on your modelparts it just looks like chrome , maybe a bit ess shiney but i love the look

alcad always looks great as well :)

but as for the matter of clearing chrome i would just try it out ..

i think clearing it high gloss only would add some depth and maybe a more shiney surface when light hits it , the more matte clear would maybe tone down the kit chrome a bit and i think that maybe would make it more realistic

just a csse of trying it out i guess

i sprayed this with the silver spraycan i talked about

the whole engine got a base coat of that as well

here is a good shot when some light hits it , dont mind that body that was the first rough weathering of flyrust , needed to be toned down a lot

on this pic the grille shell got some more grey layers so dont mind that , on the engine and blower thats the silver spraycan

also works greaton small details , just spray it in a bowl and i use wooden pics and put it on with the tip

and for instance on a rim

now i realize irl chrome reflects more but i find on models this just looks awsome and its real scheap , sprays great and flows awsome

maybe you can try a spraycan silvergray semi gloss form a store neir you ?

sure alcad and other paints give even nicer results but i find the stuff i use very good and cheap

some might want a more chrome look reflection wise ?
