Normally I don't expect any plastic or plastic related items for Christmas or my birthday, and I'm ok with that. That way I get what I want, and I don't get any really off the wall stuff that I'll never build. So, I was pleasantly surprised when my in-laws gave me this:

Granted, this is something that I probably wouldn't have purchased myself, and I am actually looking forward to the build. Not sure when yet, though. Has anyone ever built this kit? Can anyone tell me anything about the actual vehicle? The Itlaeri Website has it listed in the 1950-1990 era, but I'm guessing that it closer to 1990. I am planning on building it as a Vigili del Fuoco truck as IVECO is an Italian company.

Just thought I'd pass along a little bit of my Christmas suprise to all.

So, I've started working on this kit, and it's going together quite nicely (except for the cab, but that's another story). Anyway, I have the frame & engine assembled, and I want to get the engine color correct. The engine appeares to be a small, air-cooled, V6 diesel. Italeri molded it in black, but from what I can tell IVECO might paint their engines red or leave them natural alluminum. Does anyone have any pics of this type of IVECO engine? Actually, I'm not even sure it's an IVECO engine, or something Italeri made up.

Looks like it's gonna be fun to build. My in-laws had given me their daughter... I gave her back a short time later... Post some pics when you get a chance, It looks like a cool truck!

I would guess you are right on the date, it looks like an 1980s-90s truck cab to me. I've also seen a nearly identical kit sold as a Volvo fire truck, so there may be a Volvo connection as well (cab is very similar but has Volvo across the front).

The engine may be a Duetz, an aircooled diesel V6 which was also used in the Ford Cargo. Duetz was a German engine maker that specialized in aircooled diesels.

I've worked on some brush trucks that had a small Duetz diesel for the pump. Those were painted a medium-dark grey color but don't know if that would be the case for a larger truck motor.

This kit was offered as 4 different trucks.

I have 2 of this Iveco-Magirus, and one one of the Volvo.

It was also offered with DAF & I think Renault ID's

The only differences in the 4 are grills, headlights and decal badges

jim i have surch and if you type on google iveco magirus you have a lot of pictures of firetrucks

sometimes whit a black engine gray ore aluminiumcolour

whit some small picture of interior

only iveco you find only modern trucks

I see lots of 4-cylinder Deutz engines powering geotech drills.

Well, that helps.

I'm guessing not. Magirus was a subsidiary of Duetz who produced the engines for Magirus - Iveco.

I'm thinking it's a Deutz engine, myself. From what I've come up with, that's really all it can be.
