hgbben Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Is there a way to remove the transparent red from parts such as taillights? I need to take taillights like these to ones that look like this
CadillacPat Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Is the transparent red plastic or is the transparent red paint?
Guest Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 The only way you can get clear lenses is to make a mold of your existing tail lights and cast them with clear resin. There's no way to remove the red in transparent lenses since they are molded in red.
Foxer Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Some models do have just painted clear pieces which can be removed in normal ways.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 (edited) In 99% of the models I've seen, ( thousands) the transparent red pigment is mixed into the clear styrene the parts are molded from. To be sure, break or cut through the sprue the parts came on. If it's red all the way through, you're out of luck and will have to make molds and reproduce the parts in clear resin, as suggested above. Edited January 7, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
Chas SCR Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Not sure if it will work on the dye they put into the plastic to make it red but for the HO stuff on the hard bodys we use to use Oops and soak the body in that and it pulled all the color dyes out of the plastic with out messing with the body so it could be painted again. This let us also keep the bodys really light at the time.
