jrherald420 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 The rims are begging for some valve stems!!
Erik Smith Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Okay, Cranky, here is what I like... ...so many people bemoaned this kit - "it's good for parts, but I don't care for the car" - well, your model is proof that even a OOB model can be unique and cool with the addition of creativity. Great work so far.
Rob McKee Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Well Doc, you are doing an amazing job on this kit. Nice use of the Valejo colors to give the impression this car was rode hard and put away wet. Can't wait to see more of this.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Thanks, CRANKYHEADS. More coming shortly. Cheers, DC
Dr. Cranky Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Well, here's what happens every time we get close to finishing a first model in the new year, a certain restlessness of spirit takes over and Doctor Cranky immediately digs through his costume closet . . . and VOILA. DONN YOST COVER YOUR EYES!
LoneWolf15 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Good Lord ! Lets see ... Screw gun ? Check ! 3 in wood screws ? Check ! 2 by 4s ? Check ! Do it ! Alright , I have now put your fashion designer in an empty room where she can no longer do any more damage to the Forum's members eyesight . Hmmm , what do I do about you now ? Therein lies the mystery ! Because the answer is , absolutely nothing ! You are whacked out beyond redemption ! What a wonderful sight to see, first thing in the morning ! You ain't right , Virg , in no way , shape , or form ! Lmao !
captin Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Doc. that front end is mean looking it looks like its gonna eat up everything in its path i love it
Dr. Cranky Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 I'm just getting ready for the STYRENE-A-POCALYPSE, Donn! This is when you find that kit that really drives you crazy and you know you will end up building dozens of them. Well, I feel like this is it. In 2014, I will be building 12 of these, one every month: 6 Shiny, 6 Not Shiny, and we'll see what happens then!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Here's some more progress. I still have to add some weathering touches and some more interior details . . . stay tuned in for more. This one will be finished this weekend.
Hayabusa Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) What a great Rod! There´s so many things to like about this new kit. Well done Edited January 31, 2013 by Hayabusa

Dr. Cranky Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Great stuff as always Cranky. I'm wondering, did you do the white over red on the firewall with a stencil ? Sure did, Greg.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) really cool ( to be clear i mean the rod not..... ) LOL, really? When was the last time you saw a big model builder wearing a Russian military helmet and gas mask, checker suspenders, a kilt, Miami Dolphin socks, and foofy and comfy Chinese-made Crocs? Edited January 31, 2013 by Dr. Cranky
atenzapower Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Wow, I am aslo a huge fan of ZZ Top, ,and i love this very mutch, Billy would be proud of it.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Thanks Co. While building this model, I kept thinking of a story I heard (don't know if it is really true) that when Mr. Gibbons comes into certain towns he likes to rent some jalopies and drive around town in them and in style. But this idea (image) really become a driving force behind this build.

Tony T Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I'm with Donn on this...you ain't right, Virgil!! And that is fine by me!! Maybe I need to get me a "Tickle Trunk" or costume closet!! Nahh!!
Mooneyzs Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Chris, I drilled them out. Took a while, but it looks better. I will paint the guitar last, I think, as the crowning last touch. We still have a ways to go. Spent the day spraying primer. Virgil... thanks for answering my question. I think it looks killer that you drilled them out and I have to agree it looks way better. I am sure digging this build so far. I always love seeing your builds come to life and one of these days I am going to have to try and rust one out "Dr. Cranky Style". Thanks for always taking us step by step.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 Thanks, Chris, for the kind words. Stay tuned for more. This one is getting done this weekend. Yippie!
