i had some fre time this weekend and i need a break from the '37 so i started a new motor project. it will be a sonny leonard semi hemi headed, new century aluminum block, big block chevy. ilove the valve covers on these motors so that's where i started.

for the block i used a standard bbc resin casting that was cast off my master and modified the heck out of it.

here's the finished unit.

next i made a jesel style cam belt drive. also a dist. belt drive. finally a balancer.

test fit of the drives turned out pretty good.

hopefully i'll get some more time soon to do a little more.

You said somewhere before that you don't use CNC (on the models) but you do, at least, allow yourself the luxury of DRO on the mill? :)

I don't think everyone who looks at your models, appreciates the accuracy of your work depicting the real thing in miniature.

thanks guys.

that's right, David. no C.N.C. but, i do have x, y and z digital readouts. i don't believe i would ever attempt machining anything without DRO. it would take way to long without it and i'm just not that patient. it also makes my old beat up bridgeport look like it's in pretty good shape. hehe.

thanks for the compliment. you know,....... some people get it........some don't. it's really nice when someone else gets it. thanks.

Wow, Dave - off to another great start. I sure appreciate the ability you guys have of turning aluminum stock into a finely detailed piece. That goes for a clump of resin, too. Looking forward to this engine build.

Dave... its great to see you doing another engine... Man you sure are off to a killer start. I have been looking forward to seeing you get back to some of the builds and know that your '37 has been keeping you busy. Looking forward to seeing more of your Awesome skills!!

thanks a bunch guys. building the engines for these cars really kinda floats my boat. for me the car is just the display case for the engine.......hehe.
