Ok,

I have a build I did many years ago using Fred Cady decals that are black lettering,,then found out some time later they should be light blue, which are now avail.

I am toying with the idea to correct this. ONLY if I can remove the decals and not hurt the paint. There is no clear coat over them and I think the paint I used was laquer.

So hit me with suggestions . I'm all ears.

Bill using masking tape will remove old decals. if the decals are in really good shape and not flaking they my not come of completly and a damp sponge and rubbing should bring the rest off. hope this helps...

The heat tape they use to witerize boats works really well for this. I have used it a couple time on some older builds. Then Like Carl said, use a damp sponge to wipe of the small bits left behind.

Well, good news. I jumped in with both feet to fix this car. I never would have dreamed such a simple method would work that well. But , the tape method work really well. it took 90% of the lettering off, then a good rub down with a paper towel soaked with decal solvent took the remainder off. There is some glue residue but I think once the replacement decals are in place it will look like new once again .

Ordered new decals this morning.

Then I can be happy with the car,,,,,only took 15 plus years.
