bbowser Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I found this photo online of a downscale Belvedere and fell in love. I thought perhaps the trim changes might mitigate the flaws in the AMT body that everyone seems to notice. I sanded/ground off the Fury trim and left the thin side spear, which to my eye appears straighter than before? I added scratchbuilt B pillars that are 2mm longer than the window opening, which forced the roofline up a bit. I also found some steel wheels in the parts box and whittled the stock hubcaps down to 'dog dish' size. Otherwise the rest is built box-stock. It's actually a very nice kit with quite a bit of detail. I would have liked a 6-banger to complete the 'low-buck' theme but with the hood closed who will know? I really enjoy modifying kits from top-of-the-line trim levels to something a little more mundane. Hope you like, comments welcome.
jeffs396 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Oooh, GREAT work Bruce! I've often thought that alot of the AMT's flawed body issues could be fixed by getting rid of the curved side trim, and you've gone the extra mile converting into a sedan, BRAVO!
Henchmen4Hire Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 That's a cool brick pattern inside, is that a decal or molded detail?
Ramfins59 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Bruce that is a great looking model. The plain Jane look is dynamite. Good job.
MAGNUM4342 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Absolute proof, stripped down can be purty! I'd like to know how that interior was done too! B)
codie27 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Even in a knocked down version those Plymouths look good. Nice work. Has this kit been recently re~released? There have been a few of these lately being built...
bbowser Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 The interior was done with decals from the kit and paint detailing. Thanks for the kind comments.
realgone58 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 That's cool! Great job on the trim removal. The roof is completely different from the hardtop to the sedan however.
rmvw guy Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 It looks pretty good to my eyes but, I'm not trained on Plymouths to well. I tried to make a '55 Chevy sedan out of a hardtop once and realized the top on the hardtop was lower. About a year later AMT released the sedan body, maybe they will do that on the Plymouth some day. I guess this is similar to what Allen is saying about the Plymouth. I still like it though and appreciate all the effort you put into it. . That's cool! Great job on the trim removal. The roof is completely different from the hardtop to the sedan however.
philo426 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Nice looks like a street sleeper.Bare bones salesman's 2 door sedan with a screaming v-8.Great job!
Craig Irwin Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Very cool! If you realy want the 6 cyl, I'm sure someone on this forum who has built a street rod from the 41 Plymouth kit would have the 6 to trade with you.
Tony T Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Love the lowline cars that we don't see modelled enough...until recent releases, anyways. Great build.
