Monty Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 You might find something here http://www.micromark.com/jigs-and-fixtures.html
Bill Edman Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 Thanks guys Kennb if u could post some pics I would be super grateful
kennb Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 This very similar to what real frame shops use and you can make the fixtures that slide as you need them. It is made from simple I beams with sliding fixtures that match the I beam cross section. The fixtures then can slide into position and changed or made differently according to your application. Here it is in action making the frame for the Hudson Italia. Notice the different fixtures and guides used to make the straight true frame. You should use small clamps or a better pinning system than I show here, I hope this helps you out some in determining if it is how you want to proceed. Kenn
Bill Edman Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 i appreciate it looks like something i can possibly use
southpier Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 i made one. got a sheet of 16 ga. galvanized from the big box store and contact cemented it to a sheet of birch cabinet plywood. grabbed some cabinet door magnets, and can hold a bunch of stuff square, paralell, & perpendicular. whenever i have extra pieces of angle or bar, even framing clips for house construction, i stick them in a cigar box for a possible jig up. it's the same thing that is sold for the purpose, just made in the shop. some good stuff here: http://www.airfieldmodels.com/information_source/how_to_articles_for_model_builders/tools/magnetic_building_board/steel_building_boards.htm http://www.airfieldmodels.com/information_source/model_building_tools/jigs_and_fixtures.htm
raildogg Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 WOW those are some serious jigs, pricey but, what ideas I have, LOL
DrKerry Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I've used a piece of tempered glass with balsa wood or plastic shims under it. Right now it's under a 39 Ford kustom that I'm doing... It all depends on how hi tech or low tech you want to go. Kennb's jig is awesome!!!!! That would offer a wide array of builds on it.
Bill Edman Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 thanks for your help guys i bought some stuff to start building my jig
