BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Fresh out from my third build (A Tamiya 1/24 1989 Sauber Mercedes C9), I'm taking on a double build project for a couple 1982 Renault 5 Turbo Rally... Making it a double because I'm giving one to a good friend of mine in South America (Where this particular model was very popular even as a street car), so we will make these build # 4 and # 5. Found a few reference photos... The kits... Sanding and Priming... Thank you for reading. Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 I hope so Jim, these are a lower skill level (Hence the doubles)... Quote
Shelby 427 1965 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Have always pondered this kit but heard it was previously motorised or something so it's really basic? Not sure, but I'll be watching this anyway. Should be the same great standard too Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Yes Tomo, this kit was originally meant to be an electric build, but the factory added the option to make it a model by inserting a steel pin to attach the rear suspension I think the most challenging part would be to paint the pilots Edited April 15, 2013 by BMX Addicts Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) One has got to be itchy to get scratchy... Please pardon my masking skills... Is one of them things that only gets worse! Dry paint... Dry!!!! Edited April 15, 2013 by BMX Addicts Quote
Shelby 427 1965 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Haha cheers for the pics and info! Do you think it'd be an easy kit to convert to a road version? Looking forward to see how the engine section pans out too. Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) I think painting it as a street car will do the trick Tomo, there was nothing rally about this car in the 80's other than the roll cage and the fog lights.... By the way, there is no engine in the kit (I guess because the whole body is closed up). Edited April 15, 2013 by BMX Addicts Quote
jeffs396 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Nice work so far Juan! Looking forward to this build as it progresses, I picked one up CHEAP at the last show (street version including electric motor), looks like a nice kit... Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Thank you Jeff, these were not the original plan for the next build but they sure look cool. Hand dried the silver and masked for yellow (I can only imagine your faces looking at the masking tape ) Made my mind to finish the bodies today!!!... I just hope my wife's hair dryer holds Edited April 15, 2013 by BMX Addicts Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Next... I think that would be all for a couple more days... My back is crooked!!! Edited April 15, 2013 by BMX Addicts Quote
Davewilly Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Looks like fun...keep us posted on the progress Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Will do Dave, thanks for reading. Quote
Custom Mike Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Juan, no matter how bad the masking looks, it's effective! You've got two great multi-colored paint jobs, a great start to your 4th and 5th builds! I'm really starting to hate you though, I didn't get this good until around build #200!!!! BMX Addicts Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Mike / Oscar You have no idea how hard this is for me... When you look in the dictionary for the definition of impatient, the whole page is filled with my name in it!!! (I'm like a donkey snorting wide open in my chair!!!!). Some more work on the chassis: Edited April 15, 2013 by BMX Addicts Quote
Nacho Z Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 They are looking good Juan! No one can argue with your results. For me, masking is my least favorite part of building models. I just don't like it. Keep up the good work, I enjoy following it. Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) Thank you John... Speaking of masking: Edited April 16, 2013 by BMX Addicts Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 So much for praising masking skills... Just ruined the project and made it even worse by trying to fix it Not sure if this would be appropriate but $&#*&!@#$% Like a wounded dog I tried retouching it, and even applied a couple decals, but my paint traces are also off and the decals come out of line... With this said.... Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 Ah but wait... I'M NOT A QUITER.... This is the second model, still crappy, but gotta be finished... Right? Quote
o-man Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Juan, you are too funny! I feel your pain, but the second one looks very good. Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Thanks Oscar... A bit frustrating but the lesson was received loud and clear; you can see how I was rushing with this project... Which in all honest truth voids the sole purpose of the hobby. These friggin' newbies and their rush to finish their projects uh??? Quote
BMX Addicts Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) Decided not to use the pilots... I saw a movie called "The Indian In The Cupboard".... Edited April 17, 2013 by BMX Addicts Quote
