Chief Joseph Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Anybody have the recent issue of the Monogram 1/24 1985 Z-28? Any opinions on how well it resembles a real Camaro? I'm thinking of building an IROC-Z out of it. I already know I need some correct wheels & tires, but I'd like to know if the kit is on-par with other fairly nice Monogram kits from this era. If you have a photo of a built model that would be great. Thanks, Joseph
martinfan5 Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 I think its a basic kit, but I have not heard anything bad about it that I can recall
Casey Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61663&hl=camaro The body looks really good/accurate to me, so yeah, it's definitely worth using as the starting point for an IROC-Z. It's more of an advanced snap-together kit, but the basic shape and layout is on par with Monogram's '70 Challenger T/A kit IMHO.
Chief Joseph Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 Thanks; I was hoping to see more than one built example, but I guess it's not that popular. From the looks of it, it appears to be a nice representation of an 85 Camaro, just a little lacking in the engine and undercarriage department. Cross-kitting it with the old Monogram Trans Am should fix many of those problems.
Skydime Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) There was an Actual IROC kit back in the day of an 80s Camaro, just can't remember who made it. I actually remember it cause I almost cut the side of my thumb off with an Xacto building the thing. This was around 92 or so that I had one. Edited May 1, 2013 by Skydime
Blown03SVT Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 MPC/ AMT made the IROC and T/A GTA kits. I collected quite a few of them over the years when I was into F-bodies. Revell also had a 83--84 Camaro Z28 .but I cannot for the life of me recall many details of the kit right now as I started it years ago and it ended up back in the box for interests going else where.
