forthlin Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 A new hobby shop has opened in Warsaw, In. only 10 miles from me. It's called Awesome Hobbies & has new, old & rare models & lots of paint. I've had to either order off the internet or drive 40 miles to Ft. Wayne. Now there's one close by He's going to get plenty of business from me.
Harry P. Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Well, how about that? A hobby shop has opened instead of closed! That's a nice change of pace!
Eshaver Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Well, how about that? A hobby shop has opened instead of closed! That's a nice change of pace! Harry, count me in on that one ! Problem is , it's a long way from Richmond Virginia especially driving my 53 Ford to look at a hobby shop ..................

Brett Barrow Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 "Awesome Hobbies"? Smart, a name that comes early in alphabetical order (for those that still use the Yellow Pages, or search engines that sort alphabetical). "Lots of paint"? Good sign, paint is the lifeblood of a brick and mortar hobby shop. If you ever want to know how a hobby shop's doing just look at the paint racks. A failing hobby shop will have lots of holes in their paint racks. They'll blame it on their suppliers, of course - but it ain't their suppliers... (unless we're talking about Gunze paint, that's the only paint currently having supply issues) "Old and rare models"? That's not really a good sign, they probably bought out an old shop's inventory. They shouldn't over-value old kits. A brick and mortar shop ain't a swap meet and it ain't ebay. If it don't move quickly, get it out the door and bring in something in that will move.
cobraman Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Thats good news. I can't remember the last time I saw a new hobby shop open up.
1930fordpickup Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Good news . One store I stop at in MI sells many things on EBAY. I think that is what keeps his doors open.

Gluhead Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I thought for a second that I had my dates all mixed up. Double-checked...it is indeed the middle of May and not the 1st of April.
High octane Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I believe there's an Awesome Hobbies in Fort Myers, Florida as well.

I know lots of old & rare isn't a real good sign, but they seem to be the minority & new models the majority. I agree with the paint. Once the paint goes it seems like the hobby shop soon closes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this one makes it.
1930fordpickup Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Hmm, where's this? Might have to look it up. J-Bar Hobbies , 117 East Chicago Street Tecumseh MI 49286 . They are right on the main drag (M50) , north side of the road. Cool old little town. They have a ton of different things in there. The little guy will follow you around , that is just what he does.

Edit: From their website it looks like their prices are a LITTLE high. Do they have any aftermarket stuff? Edited May 17, 2013 by JamesW

They are not open on Sundays . Edited May 17, 2013 by 1930fordpickup
