72 Charger Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Hi all Ive been busy for a bit on this one ! This is how I from got the 62 from E-bay . To be fair the last owner did a good job but his paint job went wrong and there were runs on the roof ..........so it was of to the dip tank for the body. The bumpers had been stripped and painted silver by the last owner so they were stripped to and Alcladed heres some pics........ The body had been filler primed this took a bit of scrubbing to remove but it came off in the end . So once the body was finaly clean it was off to the paint booth !! Now Ive wanted to try the dipping technique for a while now and I think that its very cool looking . I read about it in the tips and tricks section on Here is the result .The body was first red primed then painted silver then some metalflake then dipped in candy purple . I think that the effect that Ive got looks very cool on this body shape let me know what think? More to come!
57lover Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 never herd of diping.. it looks freekin sweet though you got me wanting to try where can i read about this?
Jantrix Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) Wow! Man that looks great! I've tried this once and it wasn't so successful, but I plan to try it again soon. Even the unsuccessful one still ended up looking kinda cool. I have cleared this and plan to build it box stock, just as soon as I can come up with an interior color. Edited May 19, 2013 by Jantrix
DrewCfromSC Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 ive not dipped since the 1970s. Still use water, spray paint into it and swirl the paint up and dip the body?
72 Charger Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 never herd of diping.. it looks freekin sweet though you got me wanting to try where can i read about this? It was Jantrix's wagon that was the insperation for the catalina I just used one color instead of three or four The thread for his wagon is in tips and tricks pages
72 Charger Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 Rob as I said before your wagon is the insperation for the Catalina .Yours looks cool I had never seen it done before your thread was very helpful and I think the size of tub needs to be big enuf to wrap around the whole body and then some to cover it all. Im planing to do some more in the future thanks for the great tip/trick
72 Charger Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 ive not dipped since the 1970s. Still use water, spray paint into it and swirl the paint up and dip the body? Its got to be the right paint tho some paints turn to jelly as soon as you try to swirl it!
B.DougBeck Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I did an AMT Kiss van like that back in the late seventies...... errr, I mean I saw a picture of an AMT Kiss van done like that back in the day.
DR Dubois Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Check out YouTube for videos of dipping guitars. Really cool and you get the idea of how it works.
