Monty Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I'm starting to see more builders use beading wire and other materials to incorporate "real" hard lines into their chassis detailing & I'd like to find out what all you're using and how you're anchoring the lines to the chassis. For example, I've got a number of MPC Corvettes which already have these lines molded in. I'd prefer to use them as guides for running real hard lines (brakes & fuel) but I'm not sure how to get rid of the molded in lines from a textured surface. TIA for all helpful replies, pics and advice.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) I've been collecting various gauges of stainless wire when I run across it at hardware or craft stores for several years. One modeler here has shown some really great looking wire-wrapped lines made from guitar strings, too. Getting the diameter close-to-scale-correct helps with appearance. Getting the molded-on lines off just takes care and patience. Sometimes chisel-tip X-actos can work well to start. Riffler files, nail-files with the ends bent and shaped, or just folded sandpaper can all work. The best method, in my opinion, of securing the lines to the chassis is by using extremely fine wire to simulate clips on the hardline, looped once around the line and pulled through a small hole drilled in the chassis, then secured on the not-seen side with a drop of CA gel.
