KT EASTMAN Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Just curious if there are any current Kenworth kits out??? KT
mackinac359 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 The most recent-year KW is the Revell of Germany T600 or the AMT T600. Both dating to the early 90s. I would like to see a modern W900L or T800, PB 389, 386 or 367, A Mack Granite, International, etc... A model of a T2000 or 387 would be nice but as with the Volvo VN670 a very limited build kit. Tim
ABC Auto Industry Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 You know what's strange? The AMT-Ertl T600 has the old '70s-style Alcoa aluminum rims. I think they're cost-cutting there. Personally, I'd love to see AMT-Ertl reissue the Kenworth Alaskan Hauler, but I was told that the original Kenworth conventional tooling was redone to make the T600 kit. Anyone know anything about this?
mackinac359 Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Dylan The AMT T600 is the old W925 with new parts. AMT modified the tooling for the W925 into the T600 forever ruining the W925 and eliminating the possibility of the kit ever being reissued (without expensive reworking to the tool). The T600 kit looks like AMT (then owned by Ertl, the real Ertl, not just a company owning the name Ertl) started off to be a nice kit but they ran out of steam on it. The seats are the old Splendor style but the doors and sleeper are the newer VIT style. The dash is good. The engine and transmission are about 7 years out of date for the T600. The wheelbase is way too short for the bigger sleeper. The wheels, well we know that style of split rim wheel was pretty much a relic by the time the kit was produced. Ken Smith did an interesting article on correcting the T600 kit years ago in one of his magazine columns. He corrected the grille, tire/hood/fender issues and some other items. Here's a T600 I built a few years ago with a lame attempt at a T330. This is a T800 with a T600 as the donor kit. The hood is from Plaskit in Quebec. The K100 COE in the above photo is the Revell of Germany kit. I want to convert this kit into a K100E someday. Tim You know what's strange? mackinac359 Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Sweet! Is that the Revell of Germany T600 ? Tim
chuckyr Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) Sweet! Is that the Revell of Germany T600 ? Tim It is a modified AMT T600. I modified it according to Ken Smith’s Car Modeler instructions. The lengthened frame requires a longer faring than is available in the kit. Jaymar of Australia offers a lengthened faring, but when it arrived in the mail, it was crumbled. They were kind enough to send another made with better resin. The colors are based on an Indianapolis trucking company’s paint scheme. The cab over is base on a tractor I saw in a 1976 Overdrive magazine. Edited October 19, 2007 by chuckyr
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 What's goin' on... Following up on what the others had to say there are a few misc. conversion kits out there. I got one from Griffen Designs. ( Not sure if STS has them or if you get them from GriffenDesigns? I was passing thru Bobby's neck of the woods "literally neck of the woods!" LOL" stopped by said hello and picked up the Areo cab W900L ) Also Plaskit has several KW conversions. I cut the cab down and made it a signle bunk W900 painted it and then lost interst in it! Here's how it looks... http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?...&p=75605476
Jim B Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 There's also http://www.brlmodeltruckshop.com/index.html He has most of Monkey Claw's stuff, and some modern KW battery boxes & things. You can check out http://www.modeltrucks.com.au for modern engines. He has a Cat C15 (not listed, but he has it), and a Cummins Signature 600 on the way. Good luck!

Get a W-900/925 kit from Ebay (or wherever) before it's too late! They won't make it like that anymore! Well, maybe Revell AG or Revell/Monogram does... I just hope they don't do the same to the Peterbilt 359 in order to produce a brand-new Peterbilt truck kit.
