Tonioseven Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 My Paasche H and a pair of reading glasses from The Dollar Tree.
Danno Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 This AMT '58 Buick. I had been looking for one for years, but the prices were outrageous. This popped up on ebay, buy it now for $45 shipped. Absloutely pristine. The bare plastic shines, no glue spots, nothing broken. looks like the bumpers were replated and the windshield trim was hand painted silver. That kit was one of my first 1/2 dozen car models!! Extravagent automobile perfectly rendered by AMT into an extraordinary model.
dragin70s Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I guess I am a really simple guy, no dremel, no airbrush. Think I need to get more serious. But, as for purchases, I bet I drive by a hundred estate sales a year without stopping, but for some reason last fall I stopped at this one and got these two for $10 total. 1/16 Revell Gene Snow "Snowman" Charger funny car (complete with only the rubber tires ruined) 1/25 MPC Howmet TX
rmvw guy Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 What do you consider your best modeling purchase? My first 1/25 scale model car.
Tom Geiger Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Rich! You're back from your world tour?? Started working on anything yet?
Ramfins59 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Hey Tom... Not really much of a "world tour"... I spent 5 weeks in NC at Tom Valenta's place and a week at the Mouse House in Orlando. It's great to be back home, to sleep in my own bed, and being back at my workbench. I picked up a resin '58 Olds kit from Modelhaus at NNL East and am working on that. I'll have a WIP thread up on that shortly.
Blown03SVT Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Harbor Freight digital calipers have been a game changer for me
PeeBee Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Aside from the old standards like X-Acto knives, pin-vises, clothespins, sable-hair brushes, epoxy, CA, Tenax, etc., I would have to add: Trusty old Testor's Aztec airbrush(es) and compressor (yup, I've had these for 20 years now and they work flawlessly. I just keep the nozzles stored in a jar of lacquer - that's all the mainteance they require); Foot control pedal for my Dremel. Provides infinite speed control and I haven't burned out any of these tools yet; Cheapo store-brand aluminum foil and Microscale foil adhesive. Lifetime supply of chrome trim (and polished metal surfaces if you use the flip side) for under ten bucks; AlClad; Airbrush-ready automotive finishes; Floquil paints, particularly "Engine Black" and there zinc chromate (red) primer. Apparently Testor's is discontinuing this line of paint. Bummer; Micro-Mesh polishing pads and cloths; Novus #2 and #3; Micro-Mark Polish Mate polishing cloths; PE saw blades. PB.
Mike Kucaba Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Mine would be the cost of admission to the first model car swap meet I ever went to(Super Model Car Sunday)in Hillside,IL. Picked up a couple of SAE back issues and that was my second best purchase. This was in 1987.
Drake69 Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Paasche metal-walled spray booth is my favorite. Purple Power and Shine acryllic floor wax are the others.
