Kennyboy Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 My daughter (11 years old) stated the other day that she wanted to build another model with me. She and I did the Enzo not too long ago and she said she was ready to do another. I of course, was happy to jump on the opportunity again so I set out to find the next "build." She is not quite ready for the full kits, so we found another Snaptite model. The Revell Corvette coupe. It was a beat up box/missing instructions but sealed kit for sale on evilbay. I told her " You have a few days until it gets here, you should try and figure out what color you want to do it." She responded with "How about black with black wheels and satin black hood/roof/trunk with a red pinstripe?" I almost fell to the floor and cried........excellent taste, a murdered out Corvette! Take that Barbie! It will have the new ZR1 bigs and littles with the ZR1 brakes. She hand picked them from the parts bin. That's my girl!! Cant wait to get started. Will post it up when we get going.

The last one we built was a purple-fade-to-pink Ferrari Enzo. She proudly displays it in her toyroom. Enjoy the Camaro build! Looking forward to seeing it.
Skydime Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) I build with my little girl too. But how did "missing instructions but sealed kit" happen? I think someone burglarized them and reshrink wrapped on ya. Good thing ya don't need them on a snap kit anyway. Edited May 28, 2013 by Skydime
DrKerry Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Can't wait to see the progress. I too build with my little girl when she wants. She's only six and I do most the building but it's sparking an interest in her right now....
Tom Geiger Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Congrats on an excellent father / daughter activity. Time well spent that she will remember the rest of her life. Remember, it's only partly about the model, the rest of it is about having dad's full attention and sharing a project! I built a few models with my daughter when she was young. The key was to allow her to do what she wants, and not to push building on her. I'd wait until she asked if we could work on the model tonight. I never said no. When it was time for our family to sponsor a girl scout activity, we had her whole troop come to a model club meeting and build snap kits. One of her friends mentioned this to me recently, so you know they remember it. And that all seems like yesterday, my daughter is now 29! So enjoy it while you can! Yes, she's 29. She recently spotted the old Ghostbuster still proudly sitting in my prize display case!
Kennyboy Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 That is awesome Tom. I'm sure one day I will be in your shoes. I do enjoy the time we spend while building.
Drake69 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Barbie takes a walk on the wild side. I can like this...
Kennyboy Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 Barbie takes a walk on the wild side. I can like this... Definitely, we were looking at pics of black on black Corvettes today and she was picking out the baddest, most murdered out cars. I will have my hands full with this one.....
Tom Geiger Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 11 going on 21.. its going to be a wild ride LOL When my oldest was 4 and my younger daughter was born, my neighbor across the street (who had 2 teen age daughters) he just shook his head and said "Heaven help ya'". We had the silliness of kids growing up, and some ups and downs but they both grew up to be college educated productive members of society! You do get through it!
Kennyboy Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) At the comments Thanks Tom, she really is a very smart, school oriented child.......she just likes the type of stuff I like. I guess, like father-like daughter. Of course my wife is not so much on board. I always get the "whatever." Edited May 30, 2013 by Kennyboy
