I like to use insulation from a wire just slightly larger than the wire I`m using.

I use the plug boots offered by Pro Tech. Here's what I do to make them into "90 degree" boots:

You can make plugs out of styrene tubing..drill hole into head, insert tubing and cement. when dry cut to length, paint plug white or yellow,touch of matte black for the boot then slide the wire down the center!!
