Hartness53 Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Can anyone tell me anything about the testors mighty mini or the transparent blue air compressors. I am going to third shift soon and need a cheap quiet compressor for the basement. (can't wake up the family in the middle of the night). I have a paasche vl airbrush and only paint model cars. I need to know if one of these will be sufficient. Thanks Christian Hartness
Brendan Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Christian, I don't know anything about the Testors Air Compressor, but in my opinion, I would not buy one. For about the same price, you can get any nailgun air compressor...anywhere between $100-150. And you can get them with a 2 to 5 gallon tank attached to the compressor. They usually have a moisture trap and a regulator with it. When I'm doing work at night and I need to be quiet, I fill my tank up beforehand and do any airbrushing that I need to do. In the long run, these types of air compressors are usually less expensive and don't have a tendency to burn up. Hope this helps.
RJWood Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Christian, Pep Boys and Harbor Freight tools, sell an air tank that you fill with compressed air at the gas station or with your own compressor. Its the quietest thing you will find. I know other modelers use this type of air system and say it works well. These are not usually very expensive. and i think they come with a pressure gauge, you will need to hook up a moisture trap. This is just another option for you to consider. Good luck. Ron
RJWood Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I think he said he wanted a quiet one! Hey Jarius, What could be more silent than an air tank? it just hissssis.
RyanSilva Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Ive tried the air tank method, it just sucks when you tun out of air! Theres some silent airbrush compressors used for fingernail painting, there in the 400 dollar range i believe
cruz Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 There is also the option of a Co2 tank, probably 150 to 180 dollars but they last a pretty long time, 100% quiet and you don't even need a moisture trap.............
Hartness53 Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 How long wil a typical air tank last. Say a 15 to 20 gallon deal.
