935k3 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 The first new prototype from them in 15 yrs. It is Hybrid power and will not race until next year. What a decal sheet.
CJ1971 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I think you're incorrect.... The current 918 production car ( hybrid/petrol ) was a prototype a few short years ago...
cobraman Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Kind of makes you dizzy if you look at it too long. : )
simonr Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 And this one won't be the final livery, it's a dummy one...Anyway, looks interesting, but, not too Porsche... Simón P. Rivera Torres
sjordan2 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 (edited) From Ultimatecarpage.com (Click on blue copy for more info): 2013-06-12: New Porsche LMP1 Le Mans racer and other news ... Already some time under development, Porsche's highly anticipated LMP1 finally broke cover today. It was captured at the first test on the German manufacturer's own Weissach track. Although few technical details have been released, it is well known the car will use a petrol-hybrid drivetrain. The car is also not developed by the Porsche Motorsport department but actually by the company's Research & Development department because its purpose stretches well beyond returning Porsche to top sport in endurance racing. The car is also a rolling test-bed for future technologies and fits in the philosophy of development through racing. Works drivers Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas will extensively test the Porsche LMP1 this year ahead of its competition debut in 2014. Edited June 13, 2013 by sjordan2
cartpix Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 That's a camouflage paint job. It's hard to pick out details when done up like that. I see test cars, around here, with the same kind of camouflage, mostly BMWs. Now & then, there's a couple Mercedes with what looks like ballistic vest panels covering various parts of the car. Jeff
sjordan2 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 (edited) Could be that it's just temporary fun until they apply all the decals for races, though they don't use a lot of decals. No need to camouflage a race car. (Don't forget, this comes from the same people who brought you the Pink Pig.) Edited June 13, 2013 by sjordan2
o-man Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I think you're incorrect.... The current 918 production car ( hybrid/petrol ) was a prototype a few short years ago... It was a show car and never raced despite them showing an RSR version.
