Gothic Kustomz Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Inspiration build, "SIGH" I'm gonna do this one, I have everything i need right here, this will be sorta just outa the box, with a few scratch built things, ummmm sorta: Using Windex as a dechromer, tho I'm sure ya could use Amonia, as that is the leading ingrediant in Windex, hmmmmmm, I got a jug of that too, should try it out see if it works: Most of the suspension that will be scratch built, so keep an eye out on here.
Gothic Kustomz Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 OK body smoooooth, and ready to french the taillights, I'm using a stir straw from my local circle K store. OK gang here you go, after you smooth the rings from around your tail lights, nah you don't have to shave them, just gives it a smoother look, your gonna take your lil stir straws, and try and cut them as close to the angle as the inside of the tail light panel, don't have to be perfect, but you don't want to leave any gaps, then I use a piece of sprue, tree, to set the depth of the light, as I'm using '59 kaddy bullets, once you have it set, test fit, make sure the lights are as deep as you want them, mark the tree, sprue, and cut, then set back in, put the light back in, do any adjustments now, then pull the light, and super glue the tree, do that as many time's as you have lights, it don't matter how long you cut the tubes, you will have to trim them anyway, this is the way I french, have fun Note: OH when u go to put the whole thing in the tail light hole, you will have to come in from the back, now a secret I like doing, is taking a piece of flat plastic sheet, drill a hole in roughly a hair bigger then the tail light hole from the front, why? well when you place the straw in, it will slide into the support plastic you just made, and give u a clean glue spot, and hint. hint, support, fill and prime till you get that one piece look. try it u will like it
Mooneyzs Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Michael... Nice start on is build. I can tell you that ammonia works well to strip chrome. I have used it many times before and worked good for me and it didn't take very long for it to work.
PowerPlant Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I love this car... Nice work on the taillights Looking forward to progress on this one
Austin T Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I've got this kit and I like it pretty well,I'm gonna make the car from Motley Crue's music video for "Dr. Feelgood". Good luck on the project, looks like its got a nice start to it.
Gothic Kustomz Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 OK, gang, here she is, in her first coat of primer, as u can see the frenching went very well, just a few things to clean up, soon as it sets up I will post with the tailights in
Gothic Kustomz Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 (edited) Still have some lil adjustments to make, so a mild mock up of the frenched '59 kaddy bullets as tail lights, wont be able to do the centering till I get done with all her paint: Edited July 14, 2013 by Gothic Kustomz
JasonFL Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Some really clean work you did there with the tail lights. I wanted to know if you had any photos of the inside and how they stay in there? I also wanted to know if you need to use a particular type of glue to get the straw to stay in there? Thanks for any help. Keep up with the build, some really nice work so far.
wilderness1989 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 COOL CAR!!! My 1st year as a wrench was at a Chevy dealership working on these as new cars. It was the 1st year for curved side glass and there were many problems with them. Please keep us posted?
Gothic Kustomz Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 (edited) sorry guys been away from the bench, swamped with the bs of life, back to the bench here really soon. OK, Jason, sorry it has taken so long, hope i didn't lose ya, all ya gotta do is find straws just a tiny bit smaller then the opening, of the tail light, and you can also file the tail light holes just enough to kinda force the straw in, as for glue, just simple super glue, I would suggest using the gel, once set, prime, and see where you will need to smooth, and or fill, to fill I just use 3m spot putty, another trick, is if you want to french the head lights, just use the slurpy straws, or ?????. Thanx guys... Edited July 14, 2013 by Gothic Kustomz
Gothic Kustomz Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 FINALLY! first base coat, now to wet sand, then on to second base coat: Phase 2:

Thanx guys... No worries man, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. The paint work looks great, can't wait to see it all together. I have a bunch of straws I was just not sure how to go about using them. I always thought they'd be to flimsy or that the glue would warp them. Thanks for the help. As for filler, right now I use a combo of super glue and baby powder until I can get some filler. It works pretty good actually. Thanks again on the info. Keep up with the build, it's lookin real nice.
Jeremy Jon Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Cool paint! Looking forward to seeing this one done! Very nice!!

I had a bad day in the booth, so I had to start the paint proccess all over, dang, there's a few hours I will never get back, but it's all good, this time it will come out better, thanx guys.
