Guys, I'm wondering if they are really gone. I just saw in the latest Hemmings Muscle car mag that there's a mustang you can order. ARE they still in buisness or wat? I mean, Ok they must be doin something, but are they still someone we can trust to get an order? Kinda leery about trying them out IF they are new and re organized, supposedly. Any body got the real poop on these NEW guys?

From their Facebook page:

Earlier this year (2012), our primary factory for die-cast replicas abruptly closed. Since then, we have been working to restart our die-cast business, essentially from scratch. This is a long and difficult process. We wish there was more encouraging information, but as of right now, we simply don't know when or whether we will be able to produce more cars. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Like Harry said. They've recently offered a '48 Chev Aerosedan, but that sold out quickly. I've been watching that other auction site, trying to find items that I've missed from DM.

Turns out DM wasn't able to get their tooling out of the "closed" factory, and that accounted for much of their inventory. A shame.

I have one, and it's a real beauty. Every bit as good, if not better, than the best DM has ever made. But it's not sure if they will ever get back to offering dozens and dozens of different models the way they used to. Tooling up that many models would take a huge amount of time and money. My guess is that if DM decides to stay in the diecast model car game, all we'll see from them is the very occasional new model. The glory days are definitely over.

Virge, I got at least 50 of them rascals, and i complained about the prices i paid for them new, theres no way i'd let 'em go, they're just TOO nice. I honestly liked them better than my Franklin Mint cars. Is the Franklin Mint gone too now?

As far as I know, FM is still around. But their models weren't nearly as well-done as the DM models.

Doesn't this mean the prices will go up for those who have collections?

My guess would be yes. Whenever you have an item that's considered "collectible" and they're not making any more of that item, prices for the ones in existence generally rise. Look at Pocher kit prices. They used to sell for $200-300 when Pocher was still making them. Now, depending on which particular model you're talking about, prices range from $400 on the absolute low end (1907 Fiat GP car) to nearly $3,000 for an unbuilt, complete Bugatti kit.

On eBay last night I picked up a mint-in-box, out of production DM '57 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible. I was the only bidder at $199.99. I thought it was a fair price. Not too much above original issue price. I had one earlier but sold it in a weak moment. I think that I was the only bidder because the seller never once used the word "Eldorado" in the already verbose description. Over & over he kept calling it by the Biarritz name. All in the game I guess.

I should have bought one, because it's a beautiful piece. But noooooooooo. I waited, and now DM is sold out. :(
